Wheelbase vs trailing arm length

So, someone sell me on the TH length trailing arms...

I still have the brushed motor, don't plan on building for high speed although that may come some day. I regularly compete in local rock crawling and "adventure" comps. I do have the vanquish anti-rock in the back and all I care about is rock crawling performance. I may have to change the mount position of that sway bar if I move the axle forward an inch, but that is no big deal...

I have already paid blue monkey, so I need to make the decision soon!

Thanks for any input on performance, the way it looks is secondary IMO.

Do you want better break over angle and tighter turning?

Yes and yes. At the last comp there was a super steep downhill and I would say at least 75-80% of the cars I watched go down it rolled over forward. My bomber did not, kinda don't want to loose that... I do hang up on the belly a lot though. I assume you did the conversion?

Yes I did first to Wraith length and then to Twin Hammers length. TH is perfect for dedicated crawling. I didn't have any negatives from the switch. If you want to try without committing too much you can get the plastic Vaterra kit for $12 on eBay. If you switch you'll never go back to longer arms.

Alright, I have seen you around the forum and trust you opinion. Thanks for chiming in, I will contact Matt at Blue Money and ask him for some TH length.

What did you do with your upper rears to bring the pinion angle back into "stock" range?

Wow thanks for the compliment! I assure you I only want to help guys build better rigs and enjoy them more.

For the upper rear links, depending on your axle, you will need either Wraith length or just a bit shorter. Because of the Currie axle on mine, the rear upper truss that the links mount to is moved back a bit so for me, Wraith rear uppers were perfect. What axle are you running in the rear?

Right now, I have the stock AR60. I eventually will either for to the Currie F9, or the SSD. It will be a rear steer axle, so I am not sure if the mounting position will differ and which direction it will go.

I did read recently that for axial fest they do not allow aftermarket axle housings.....??? So I guess I will keep the plastic ones around in case I decide to travel out there.

With the stock AR60 and SSD you will need rear uppers just a bit shorter than Wraith length. The F9 would want Wraith length.

Found these Traxxas 5318 links that works great for uppers on a Twin Hammers trailing arm and stock rear end. In the package they measured about 115mm eye to eye, ended up turning the ends a couple turns to point pinion up a touch more in the upper chassis mount hole. Was originally going to order the VP 100mm titanium links that would be about the same 115mm E2E but these were $7 on Amazon Prime.

How do you manage the angle? Are those bent rod ends or do they just have narrower ball joints and thus have play in the mounting spot so they can shift to accommodate the angles. I used a random pair of links from an ancient tlt crawler of mine for my uppers, and they only work do to having narrower ball joints.

I read through the post and I might have missed it but if I want to run wraith length lowers with a stock AR60 what do I need to run for the uppers? Any input is appreciated.

With the stock axle, Wraith uppers will match Wraith lowers. With DLux's truss or a Currie axle, Yeti uppers match Wraith lowers.

So I just got a blue monkey set of twin hammer length trailing arms with custom length uppers for my bomber. For those wondering (I know I was) what it looks like next to a bomber that is stock wheelbase length, here are a couple pics of the difference.

I'll add my comparison pic showing the correct length trailing arms next to stock length. :flipoff:
