I am desperately trying to decide what single malt to buy for new years evening, thats as you might know the only day of the year i touch alcohol.
The things that so far come to me is far too expensive for a retired Dane like myself.
?? a glass and some ice cubes since i have become a ***** in my old days.
I think i should look for Vodkas too, and then for next year maybe make my own spiced alcohol ( what we here in the old country call Bjesk )
"A tradition of “home flavouring” snaps exists in Scandinavia. This tradition is strongest in the southern areas, particularly Denmark. A snaps enthusiast will typically buy a commercially made, neutral-tasting snaps, and then add flavour to it by adding herbs found in nature or grown in a garden. For instance, in northern Denmark, various spices are added to snaps to produce a version called "bjesk", which roughly translated means “bitter”. In
Hirtshals, the
Hirtshals Museum tells the story of the "bjesk". Popular flavours for home flavouring include
Blackthorn,
Bog-myrtle,
Dill,
Persian Walnut,
St. John’s Wort,
Woodruff, and
Wormwood. The herbs are commonly used singly, but some enthusiasts experiment with mixing them to achieve “the perfect flavour.”
So i bet you might be thinking,,,,,
And yes when we was young we made Bjesk with weed in it, but off course this was way before the strong designer weeds came about. ;-)
I can only recommend ppl to start making Bjesk, then you have something truly unique to serve for your non driving guests.
