In other news, I gotta give a little tip'o the hat to the former pres of Mexico. He says what he means. :ror:

Tweeted today after we all learned that Trump is asking Congress for $$$ to start building his wall.


TRUMP, when will you understand that I am not paying for that ****en wall. Be clear with US tax payers. They will pay for it.

That's over the next 10 years, but still, it's a crap ton of money. The GOP thinks that we should give more. And really that is just one of the many ways that Israel gets American $$$'s. Technically they are loans, but they are always forgiven so that we are never repaid.

Fun fact: accounting for all US contributions towards Israel, we spend more on the average Israeli citizen per year than we do on our own.


As for the "why"...it's complicated, but the short version is that they are an ally and doorway to the middle east and have been since they became a state. Obviously we're paying for that friendship, but we have our reasons.

Nope. The State Department assisted a US based non-profit group that is working towards a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine. A couple hundred k went to the group working in Israel, and a bit less went to the group working in Palestine.

Netanyahu doesn't want a two-state solution, so I suppose you could spin that as an attempt to boot him, but that wasn't the intent.

Obama just signed a $38b aid deal with Netanyahu a few months ago. If he were really out to get him, he wouldn't be throwing cash at him.

I think Trump knew he'd take charge.

I threw that money part just to see where it landed. I didn't think it was a direct parallel to Russian involvement, but it could be influencing, depending on the terms of the money. It was probably a bit of a stretch.

Of course it's influencing. Nobody throws that much cash around without expecting something in return. We've been funding Israel for decades.

And lets not forget Netenyahu gave Sen. Cotton almost $1m for him to rally against the Iran deal...
