It's been a fun ride. Really enjoyed the banter in this thread. While I don't agree with most of you in this thread politically, that doesn't mean I don't like you or wouldn't have a beer with you. You;re probably all good guys who love America just as much as I do. I hope at some point for the sake of the country we can all find a middle. A place where we realize it's country first, not red or blue, or black or white. We'll never be a great nation if we can't work together.

No. In the words of the Pres. Elect Trump, it is "unpresidented".

Some did. Does "birth certificate" ring a bell?

Uh-yup. See below.

Right outta his mouth.

Hollywood tends to lean left, so, no.

Couldn't say.

Lets see, um, uh.....holy fawking shit YES. Obama's secretly a Muslim. Obama's a dictator. Obama's the antichrist. Obama's coming to take our guns. Obama's going to declare Martial Law. Obama's going to kill your grandparents with Obamacare. Obamas "War on Christianity" (lulz), Obamas "Jack Booted Thugs" are coming to take our Freedumbs. Obama's shipping middle easterners over here to take control of the country. Acts of terrorism on US soil are Obamas False Flag operations. Unmarked military vehicles being transported via train? Obama's comin'! Etc, etc. 8 years of soiled undies, pant legs and socks soaked in urine, and it was all hot air and embarrassing behavior for adults with no discernible mental deficiencies. Apparently piss is Obamas kryptonite.

So no, it's not "just" the liberals. Every cycle it gets kicked up a notch. Last time the right kicked it up one with Obama, this time the left is going one more with Trump. They're all at fault.

And if you're one of those that thinks they have to pick a side, you're just as bad. It's not a game, and it's not a race. You don't get a prize for picking the less shitty candidate. If you want to show the establishment that you're tired of their shit, don't vote for them. Vote for somebody else. Don't play their left/right game.

I didn't remeneber any sitting Republicans going on about the birth certificate...just Trump. I'm not sure I'd equate McConnell saying that to the amount of Democrats who say they won't even speak him with, let alone work with. McConnell saying that, & I could be wrong, came across as the usual stupid tit for tat game that Congress plays. That childish crap of "well, they did it to me!" needs to just die. I feel it's because they knew they were pretty much untouchable in their positions, some being there for decades. So, really no repercussions for them for not working together. It just affects us peons.

I do remember all the conspiracy theories against Obama, but those seemed like the rantings of a few backwoods crazies. Whereas the "fear" surrounding Trump seems more prominent...I don't know, maybe I just wasn't looking in the right places concerning the former.

All in all, the only real side I have is America. My views & convictions definitely fall on the right, but that doesn't mean I don't like what the left could offer. I genuinely want to believe that our politicians do have our interests at heart. I don't know if it was the money, a sense of power, or what that got them, but it seems they don't have our best interests at heart. And that's sad, because they are public servants...

I also don't remember CNN doing a show about what would happen if Obama Was assassinated before being Inaugurated.

for those of you who are interested pbs frontline has a couple really good features on both obamas 8 years in office (the divided states of america) and also another about trumps life and his upcoming presidency (president trump).

very well done and dare i say fairly objective.

I've seen that as a point of conversation more than a few times. It's always interesting to learn the protocol of such a thing. Odd for a news story though.

Citizens and politicians alike need to come together. So many Democrats are writing Trump off before he even takes oath. That's completely ignorant and counterproductive. I know the same happened for Obama and others, but I don't feel it was as bad as it is now. I also feel that we've never been so divided. A lot of Democratic politicians are still doing everything in their power to create a rift between the parties including Obama himself. It's irresponsible and not how our "leaders" should act. Our government, as we know, is a team sport and it's broken beyond belief. People are tired of the same old crap. Trump, we cautiously hope, will be a good change, as unlikely as it is that anything will change at all. I think that's why he got elected.

The media would have you believe Obama left everything better than he got it. I disagree and I'm not necessarily talking about the economy. Sure, we're not in a recession like we were, but is that his doing or just that the economy is cyclical? My job is slow. I know people laid off. Some have given up searching for a job. Don't believe the "statistics" shared by the media. Like everything numbers can be skewed to fit a certain agenda.

The bigger issue is that Obama and his administration certainly made race relations worse. I honestly don't think you can argue that with a straight face. He defended the BLM and didn't denounce them like he should have. You can't support a group with a race in its name and then claim you're trying to unite the country. He also was also slow to speak out against violence on police and he was not emphatic enough when he did. To this day Obama and his wife are throwing shade, as the kids like to say, at Trump and the Republicans. That's not even mentioning the fact that he cares more about refugees than the safety of US citizens. The Obamas are a joke and I have absolutely no respect for them. I never whined that he wasn't my President though. I gave them a chance. Do the same for Trump even if you don't like him.

I'm lucky enough to have met many races from all walks of life and to get to know them fairly well. They all denounce racist BS including the BLM. Of course those people are busting their asses, creating their own lives and their own success and not blaming another race for their failures or their struggles. People with real jobs and real lives don't have time to worry about hate. And most people out there aren't truly racist at least in my experience. When you do things that bring you together, such as hobbies, charity work, etc. you learn color doesn't matter. You're either a good person or you're not. Can't we all get along?

There were a few. I don't know if they were just playing to their constituency, or they actually believed such an improbable idea, but they were on board.

I'm not sure I'd equate McConnell saying that to the amount of Democrats who say they won't even speak him with, let alone work with. McConnell saying that, & I could be wrong, came across as the usual stupid tit for tat game that Congress plays.

Maybe, maybe not, but it sets a precedent, and it opens the door for your next quote...

Yep.

Years ago they would have been just backwoods crazy people topics, but they're mainstream now. Remember Jade Helm? Half the damn state of Texas was on Obama Alert. It's like someone finally cracked the code on circumventing rational thought and used conservative media as an experiment.

I straddle the line and lean which ever way seems like it would be most beneficial. Both sides have their pros and cons. Neither side has it 100% correct.

Yes, they do need a firm reminder that they are here for US, not for themselves, or for corporations, or anyone else that throws money at them.

Well said. I have absolutely zero respect for the divider in chief or his wife. They are just bad people one end to the other. Not that they are evil like many others believe I simply think they are in way above their pay grade.

Trump makes some extremely good points. Stuff I would gladly rally behind. I don't trust him enough to carry them through though, and the way he's filling his cabinet positions isn't helping.

Overall, it's better. As for specific areas of the nation, "better" is highly subjective. You can't expect a complete return to normal after a recession like that.

Remember that most of the measures taken to repair the economy were drafted before he even won the election. It was projected then that it would take several years to recover, and even if it were simply left alone without any meddling at all, they were guessing a full decade.

The company I work for almost completely tanked in '08. I worked there 2 whole months before being let go and hired back in every once in a while as a contractor. Just this past year we doubled in size from the previous year. Things are really good around here.

The bigger issue is that Obama and his administration certainly made race relations worse. I honestly don't think you can argue that with a straight face. He defended the BLM and didn't denounce them like he should have.

It didn't get worse, it got exposed more than it used to be. Race relations have never been "good", they just got shoved under the carpet. There are still plenty of racist groups kicking around, healthy as ever.

BLM isn't what it started out to be, or at least public perception isn't what it once was. BLM still does good work, but they've become overrun with people doing messed up shit in their name. A good analog would be Occupy Wall Street. It started out as a peaceful protest, but by the time it worked it's way across the country the whole thing was overshadowed by those that took it as an opportunity to get violent.

Good luck with that.

I agree to an extent. I don't think they're evil, but I definitely think there is a small bit of them that deliberately posed harm to our country. They feel we (America) "deserve" it.

As a political noob I voted for him in '08. In '12 and '16 I went anti-establishment.

Completely understandable. I didnt vote for him but I DiD give him the benefit of the doubt. All president elects deserve that at least IMHO. Sadly, I was disappointed.

I was gonna swing right in '08, but Palin scared the bejesus outta me. :ror:

Hahaha! Unfortunately, it's almost as if it's just "vote for the lesser of two evils" from here on out. Frightening actually.

Absolutely. I really don't think they like how this country is or how it's running. Hence why they've done and said what they have.

Well at least you can admit it. I knew better than to vote for him, '08 I went with Ron Paul and 2012 I wrote in Ted Nugent.

I was and still am way less worried about her than that turncoat ass clown she was running with.

Came off more as a sad attempt to trigger some crazy into doing something stupid so all the crybabies can get their way.
