I'm starting this build thread in the hope that I can keep some momentum going with it. I'm still waiting on various parts to arrive but I'm hoping to turn this project into something great. Who knows what the outcome will be and the more I look at the D90 body and SCX10.2 chassis the more I realise that what started out as just getting the body to fit I've been inspired into something more drastic - lol.



I've purchased a cheap £30 Chinese hardbody so if it all goes pear shaped it's not a huge loss, I must say I think there's plenty of detail in this for the money.

I've masked up some cut lines and penned some ideas. Before any cutting commences I need to wait for some parts. Apologies in advance, I think this is going to be a labour of love and could take me quite some time.

It's pretty solid too, the plastic is thick in parts.

To be honest I didn't expect a £30 Chinese body to be so nice lol. I have a killer project in mind for this so hopefully it won't go to waste too much however, I might pick up another if I can get it cheap enough.

This lack of mail has totally stalled progress. I'm not sure what's going on but I'm waiting on 1 package before I can get things underway.



I have experimented with some paint though for the wheels. Budget doesn't allow for some methods so I've painted the stock wheels:

I Will add more detail but quite happy with how these turned out. Sanded, primered, painted with "silver aluminium" then topped with tamiya PS-37. Will stick a coat of clear over a bit later.

Have been looking for a hardbody an seen these Chinese landys before. Will be keeping a tight eye on your thread an if it looks any way half decent I'll maybe treat myself to one as well. Do you know if the scale roof racks with ladders, side vents and bonnet panels that are cheap on eBay fit properly on this body? KHL with this build!

How annoying, Still haven't received the fender flare kit I ordered nearly a month ago now. I need to line these up to plan before I can start cutting the shell. I also ordered a tube of humbrol filler which seems to be lost in the post too - so much for keeping momentum going eh!

Ive had to order again, hopefully this time the items will arrive!

Ordered yesterday and received today. That serves me right for trying to save a couple of quid ordering from China. At least I'll have another set for another project when they eventually arrive.

I've also got the xtra speed axles etc that I'll build up when the scx10 ii kit arrives (next week hopefully).

Cutting underway, these are the rear wheel arches - screwed them together to make sure they're mirror images.

Decided the first cut on the rear flares was too long so I've cut them back a bit more.

Screwed together again for symmetry.

Waiting on filler to arrive now to finish sorting the bodywork. The screws supplied with the arches were too short so I've got some 2x8mm ones coming soon. I prefer a bit more than a turn or 2.

I cut the backend off:

glued it to the cut line with e6000

Cut the front end out

Bonnet bulge [emoji4]

It doesn't look like I've done much but I spend a good couple of hours sanding last night getting rid of mould lines and the cut sections that needed smoothing. I want to keep the snorkel but want an exo cage too so looks like more stuff is going to get cup up!

Off to a great start, love the red wheel color. Are the axle housings you ordered metal?

Edit: Thought so, looks pretty nice especially for the price, how's the fitment?

Thanks, I haven't fit the axles yet as I've got a sxc10.2 winging its way over from the US - got some rc4wd arb diff covers coming too but seems to take ages in the mail

Will be filling and sanding gaps this weekend. I need to trim the back to fit over the transmission etc
