Very little progress. Fabbed up some simple motor mounts. Then I decided to try to install the electronics to get this thing moving. Not so lucky. Couldn't get the throttle to work correctly. Kept starting and stopping. The steering servo worked good. Too good. It had so much torque it broke the welds on the leaf spring mounts. Quick fix tho. Reinforced them with a brass plate and screws.

Realized the thin brass chassis was too weak so.................

I made a new chassis from steel!

Progress update:

Added a crossmember at the rear shackle mounts for added strength.

Fabricated a engine mount crossmember for the Cummins to rest. Still might add some more bracing for strength AND still need to build a rear crossmember for the trans.

Removed the carrier bearing from the rear of that trans and attracted the trans shaft straight to the transfer case. Just like most 1:1.

Cummins diesel looks right at home between the new frame rails doesn't it?

Now I'm at the point where I was before I decided to make the new chassis. Everything from here on is real progress.

Rebuild:

After staring at the engine mount crossmember for a while, I just wasn't feeling it. The wasn't beefy enough compared to the rest of the frame. So I rebuilt it. Bigger. Stronger.

I'm extremely proud of how the crossmember turned out. Now the Cummins sits in between the frame rails under it's own weight for the first time.

Update:

Got the bed cut to fit the truck. Think I like this shorter version better.

Found these scale hubs in my parts bin. Forgot I had them. Thought they would look good on Bruticus.

Thanks webb. Planning on keeping them. Just have to figure out how to mount them. Used a couple dabs of super glue to hold them on to see how they look. Time to brainstorm!

Update:

I know most of you liked what I did with the axles but for months I've been debating whether I was going to keep it or not.

Decided it has to go.......

Shout out to Quiksteel for making an awesome product. When they say permenant bond they mean it. I actually had to chisel this stuff off the axle it was so strong. Took me, it seem, hours to get the axle all cleaned up.

I used the same Quiksteel on the axle housing cover to round the cover to look like a military axle housing cover. Might use it to make the axle tubes square also. (like in the first pic)

Still have ti compete the same process on the rear axle. Uhhh!

I think that's a good plan. I think the square tubes don't look to bad if you were going to beef them up.
