Hey Guys,

I'm drawn to the Interco (Swampers) line of replica tires for nostalgic reasons. I also understand that replica tires may not be the best performing tires for R/C trucks. Which type hold their own in the R/C crawler world?

Thanks

Which swampers? there are quite a few 1:1's and RC versions

There are Boggers, TSL's, Thornbirds and IROC's i dont know if those are accurate names in the 1:1 world or not

TSL's: (there are 2 sizes offered for the 1.9's) these are great tires and one of my favorites in the smaller size: https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/pro116314.htm

Boggers: these are better for mud and dirt and they are also way too big to be 1.9", they're 5.4" tall where most others are around 4.75" max https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/pro1013314.htm RC4WD make a smaller version thats 4.79" https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/rc4z-t0046.htm

IROC: these are pretty good for most surfaces and the sizing is good https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/rc4z-t0054.htm

Thornbirds are said to perform just as poorly as their real world counterpart, tread spacing is just too tight to work well. https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/rc4z-t0183.htm

Thanks, this is pretty much exactly what I'm talking about. The RC4WD TSLs that you posted, are those decent for crawling too? The Thornbirds are basically a very loud highway tire.

I am a big fan of Tsl's myself....

They are all G8 compound and all work equally well...

The boggers are more aggressive and dig harder in loose soil, sand, mud, and snow. The Tsl's float a bit better, but don't carry momentum like the Boggers.

My Nephew and I have been really running them hard the last few weeks. He's running 2.2 Tsl's and I am running 1.9 boggers, both 5.4" tall. It's not a real fair comparison though. My bronco is pushing 10 lbs, and his Jk is around 6 lbs. I did run the 2.2 tsl's on my bronco, and they performed flawlesly.... If the boggers didn't look so good I would still be running the 2.2 Tsl's

I've run the Proline TSL's and Proline boggers and between the two I prefer the TSL's they're good on just about all surfaces.

I ran some RC4WD Irocs for a while and they were good tires too, good on rock and in the dirt. these have a more aggressive sidewall than the TSL. I still prefer the Proline TSL to it though.

I just remembered RC4WD has the TSL too in a smaller tire (1.5" wheel x 3.75" tall) https://store.rc4wd.com/RC4WD-Interco-Narrow-TSL-SS-155-Scale-Tires_p_7531.html
I have not run these as they're a bit smaller than I like to run.

TSL SX is a great all around crawler tire. It’s available from several different brands, at different price points and in different sizes.

RC4WD makes boggers that aren’t monster truck size.

RC4WD Irok Super Swampers are amazing.

That has not been my experience. Vaterra Tsl's are better, but not as good as Proline G8.

I think I found the perfect solution, I’ll get them both. Now just to decide which is first!

The Proline Tsl's would be my first choice hands down. They will spoil you in how good they are everywhere.

The Rc4wd boggers are stiff and do not handle rocks as well. When you get rc4wd, get the X2S3 compound, as it is the only one that works well when wet as well as dry.

I got the Iroks and they perform pretty good everywhere, the compound is at least as good as the rock beasts with komp compound. They do tend to get packed with mud but clean up decently and are super sticky being the X2SS compound. I climbed some really crazy rocks and dirt hills with a basically stock TF2 that I never thought would be possible, stock foams too.

Have you thought about the RC4WD baja claw TTC? If the size is ok with you they're a great all-around tire.

Proline TSL XL Super Swampers are still one of the best tires out there.

Yup, you picked the right 1:1 tires to like. You have good taste..

The Proline TSL's is all I run because I haven't found another tire that both performs and is a licensed scale tire. Smaller rigs get the standard version (4.3" tall) and bigger rigs get the XL's. I always use the G8 compound because I'm cheap and I want my tires to last a while but I've heard pretty great things about the Predator compound.

*look into 2 stage foams, either Crawler Innovations or Proline. Absolute best thing you can do for your rig performance -wise..

The RC4WD 4.7 by 1.5 boggers are a truly exceptional, lately overlooked, tire. Outstanding in mud, dirt, and snow. I do not rock crawl, therefore cannot comment. These pertinent videos are mine:

I believe those are the tires that are made from the now very old X3 compound. RC4WD has since released X2SS and X2S³ compounds. I think that's why they've fallen out of favor. Still great in the mud though.

This thread is sticky-worthy! I've been wondering the same thing - which "real" swamper works the best. trxrdr17, I'm right there with you - started 'wheeling when the Swamper was THE tire. Boggers came out later (had a set) but where horrible on pavement. Thornbirds... possibly the worst tire ever mass-produced.
There was a time when I would've been fine if all truck tires were limited to four choices:
- BFG ATs
- BFG MTs
- Interco Swampers
- Interco Boggers
