Motor mounts

One thing on my TRX4 Sport that I have not upgraded is the motor mount plate. Not that the stocker is doing anything wrong, but it seems that while an aluminum plate may be stiffer, the fact that it sandwiches between 2 plastic pieces may mean that upgrading is just throwing money away for no increase in performance.

Does anybody have any experience with this Usukani Barycenter Forward Mount plate? https://www.amainhobbies.com/usukani-barycenter-forward-motor-mount-trx4-usu-us88181/p1249115

Or should I just stick with the stocker or the Hot racing or Traxxas version of aluminum plate?

Thanks

Neither way will really effect performance, they effect gear mesh more than anything else. Cooling will improve slightly with a metal motor plate.

I still use the plastic motor mount. One way to tighten it up is to put a little strip of electrical tape in the slot that the motor plate slots into. This removes any play it might have had, they used to be a loose fit and would wiggle a bit. You should be able to do this with either type of motor plate (stock or metal)

Here's a short video I put together a while back.

Actually those are 2 piece mounts and yes they are very effective.

Motor is rock solid in that mount with zero slop.

I’m assuming that this would work with a Bowhouse center skid then but if anyone can confirm this please do. Would love to see one like this but with motor adjustment slots instead of holes "thumbsup"

Right on. I ordered that 2 piece unit from Amazon, at $14 seems hard to go wrong.

If I’m not mistaken, it appears to have pre threaded holes for mounting a fan on top of the motor mount. A plus for those who want that option.

I would think so. If the Bowhouse skid accepts the stock traxxas mounts, then this should be a non issue.

I absolutely agree on having the slotted mounts. That’d be nice.

I got the motor mount and installed it. It moves the motor forward a bit, and seems more solid when I move it by hand. Doesn't mean I can tell anything driving the truck, but in theory at least it is a more solid mount.

I agree that it would be better with slotted mounts instead of holes, but it does give the proper alignment and mesh as it is.

Final review: Seems worth the $14, moves motor 5mm forward as far as I can tell without actually measuring it, and my wife says I'm 7% more handsome since I installed it.
