My K5 hightrail build

What's going on folks. Used to have a tuber wheelie king build on here back in the day... Santa brought us some new trx4s this past Christmas. So here we are back into it!

This is my hightrail. So far, the servo broke, so I upgraded to an eco power 250t. While doing so I put softer springs all around on it. Whelp, once I did that, the front end is designed so poorly on the hightrail that the panhard bar was just sitting on the axle and servo horn. What a terrible design.

So I got a aluminum panhard mount, chopped the oe panhard mount off the old servo mount. Got a front bumper/servo mount to mount the servo away from everything. What a difference! Now I have the droopy, soft suspension I was looking for. I wanted it sitting lower but not losing out on travel. Wanted to fit the interco irok super swamper 1.9s on cheapo 1.9 steelies. I think it sits real nice now. Performs great!

Then randomly my RX fried. When I say fried, I mean, toast. Like might as well have been in an oven, or under a torch. It came down off a drop kinda hard, on the front wheels, and I think maybe the servo spiked or something, and fried the rx. I didnt have a bec or anything. I bought a new rx, and added the traxxas bec to it. While that does seem to be working really well, I decided to swap to a CC bec wp... and gonna just bypass harness the RX as to not fry it while running stock esc for the other micro servos. Anyone ever see that happen before? Thought it was kinda odd tbh...

Anyways, I'll put up some more pictures soon.

Looks like a really capable rig... Good save @ .28 lol. I run direct power servos in both my trx4s so idk on the rec/ esc. Running hw1080 on both of em as well. Great looking trx4.

traxxass strikes again

dont feel bad it happens to me every time i plug in some thing with traxxasssss printed on it

maybe you have to say traxxass 3 times fast while your pluging in the battery or something to keep them from going up in smoke i dont know i never figured it out

Ha, funny you say that because the first two pro scale light kits I put in went up in smoke. Not literal, but yeah. toast. I installed the second and then third, right in the hobby shop to ensure they realized it was not me causing this crap. LOL Anyways, that eventually got fixed and has been fine ever since.

Is there any recommended receiver/transmitter that works well with all the shift servos, etc for the trx4? For now, its working nice and tolerable for what I do with the truck. But eventually, Im sure something else will go.

Tonight I got all the electronics setup the way I like...I think. Time will tell, but everything seems to be working all happy together.

I got a CC BEC WP 2.0 and using a Holmes hobby Rx bypass harness I'm solely using the bec to power my servo to 7.25. So far working great.

I figured, since I'm bypassing the Rx with that, there's no reason I can just leave the Traxxas bec installed and powering up the Rx and shift servos, lights etc, through the Rx... Figured a little extra voltage stability can't hurt and the two becs are technically not in the same system together, so they shouldn't cause any issues.

Lots of wiring all throughout, but I've got it all tidy now and it looks good to me imo.
Few shots of the servo/panhard mount mods also...

If you go to "Comments, Suggestions, and Help" section there are several threads about posting pics. The site changed recently and some people were having difficulty posting pics. I didn't link any of those threads here but I can if you're unable to find/ access them.

Rig looks good. Nice upgrade list.

So did some more stuff to the rig. Got a new Radio Link rc6gs v3, HW 1080g2, and a couple Eco Power 875s for my diff locks. One was fried and the other made noise.. kinda sucked getting the 875s mounted and working due to their size difference and wrong horn, but I modded some stuff and got them working nice. I wanted them so I could bump the bec up a little also, and they're cheap.

We went to scale day at RC excitement in Fitchburg MA today and I was really impressed with how capable the rig is now. What a difference a 1080 makes for control. Having that paired with the new Radio is great. Drag brake adjustment on the fly is really handy!

Yeah, I'm real pleased with the tire setup. There's some steep wooden stuff they have that I struggled on quite a bit, but with most rocky situations, I wasn't finding myself wishing for anything more from the tires. Having the portals really helps keep the ground clearance with the 1.9s as well.

Overall I'm really happy with how these trucks run mechanically for the most part. Electronics on the other hand, what an absolute joke. Servos don't last at all, poor control... Bleh.

Yep.. At least with everything I've tried in super loose stuff, the aggressive and tall lug patterns are about the only tires that power though without loosing much traction and tires like that just aren't practical when running multiple kinds of terrain in a single run. Almost anything is going to struggle to some degree in the soft loamy stuff but yours seemed to hook up okay in that climb.

Never had any issues with my Traxxas electronics ( radios, receivers, motors, and esc's). I wanted more functions/ adjustability over any of my stock ESC's ( RC4WD, Traxxas, Axial, etc) and the HW1080 is a no-brainer to get that job done... regarding price, reliability, and functionality. but fortunately I never had any of my XL-5's fail. Traxxas servos on the other hand... just flat out suck... ime they're even worse than other RTR servos. Every Traxxas servo I've ever had ( except for the one in my Stampede) has failed pretty quickly and in fairly tame conditions where you'd think they'd be okay... trash and like most of Traxxas electronics, way overpriced.

Sorry if I missed it but did you lower the suspension or just swap out the 2.2s for some 1.9xls? Looks good!

I just put 1.9s on it here-- RC4WD Interco IROK 1.9

The suspension I do have setup with quite a bit of droop just from the weight of the truck and soft setup Ive got going on.
I'm using 15wt fluid, I removed the stoppers on the shafts, and installed traxxas "long" springs .39 in front and .29 in rear.
Traxxas TRA8153 Shock Springs, Long (GTS 0.29 Rate, White Stripe):TRX-4 Lift Kit
Traxxas TRA8154 Shock Springs, Long (GTS 0..39 Rate, Org Stripe): TRX-4 Lift Kit

The IROK tires are one of my favorite looking, but RC4WD compound just hasn't kept up with the times. Have you tried Proline G8 or Predator compound to compare?
