Shaun's 1987 Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe Restore

If you haven't change your fluids yet, I know royal purple is reallt good I think its suppose to give you a couple horse power and a little better gas mileage.

Yeah I'm using Royal Purple. Horsepower TV did a show and they gained 2 horses from changing all the fluids to Royal Purple.

Stop were you are at. Start removing a few more parts then unbolt it from the trans then yank that SB out of there. Crate it up and send it my way and I will fix it up for you.

I used to love building Chev SBs.

But seriously, pull the heads at least and get some better heads on that thing. Also pull the front cover off and rad out and slide the cam out of it.

Dump that electronic feedback quad for an older quad or upgrade to something better but not a holly. Edlebrock has a nice 4 barrel that would work real nice.

I did nto get a good look at the distributer but I believe it has ESC (electronic spark control) If so then junk it and throw on an older style vacuume controlled distributer such as an HEI.

It looks like a single plane manifold. Not a big fan of the single planes as they do not build as much low end power as a dual plane.

Heck if you do not need it inspected every year then get rid of most of the clean air crap off of it. It is so much nicer to look under the hood and not see everything covered up by a bunch of black rubber airtube hoses etc.

Those heads are actually great heads, 53cc HO heads.

I'm keeping the emissions crap, though I don't like it, It has to be inspected.

Its a dual plane manifold

When the carb gets replaced it will probably be with a Holley 4175

I would not "build" this motor. It would be cheaper and smarter to just build a 350.

It depends on if you have a good working block and internals to start with. Don't over look the 5.0 as it can be built to perform pretty dang good. I spent close to 20 years doing this.

I don't think you should even be around a vehicle if you think a bumper sticker can add horses.

I don't think you should be around a car if you really thought i was serious.

You're wasting you money with that motor, why dump money into it if you say you're going to be swaping motors soon? You're going to have to dump alot more money into that car before it becomes a "dreamer".

The thermostat had to be changed, a bolt broke off in the intake manifold. Why in the fawk would I spend near $100 to get the bolt out of the stocker POS intake manifold. I'm planning on swapping the engine in a year or two. But thats not written in stone, I may just stick with the 305 and rebuild it. 350's are thirsty engines and gas prices are high.

I don't care if its your idea of a dreamer or not. Its my dream car I would much rather take a non restored AC like mine than a restored AC. I like working on things, and when I'm done it will be something that I have built not someone else.

what he thinks and you think are a little different bro, i love blazers and suburbans and my friend hates the idea of it

Even though i'm not really a big fan of your car I do have to say it's alot better than what most kids have these days, little 4 banger neons with the innoying as hell exhaust tips. Keep it american muscle.

Finally done. hours and hours of work. I'm extremely happy with the end result. I was kinda disappointed in the power the car was making even after the swap. It had the original plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. We change all of them, and it made a huge difference. It has a lot of power now.

Pictures.

Looks good. It's nice to see you working on your car rather than paying someone to do the job...

I wouldnt even bother with the 305 just go 350 you can get them cheap, rebuild it then swap so you dont have much down time. There is no replacement for displacement the 360 in my yj is tired so iam going to swap in a 401, but reataching the knuckle and putting new axles shafts are going first. good luck with you project just dont be a idiot with the skinny pedal.
