1:20 RC4WD Grand Cherokee

Thanks, everyone, for the interest. It's about to be a roller in a few hours, but pics will have to wait for a couple days... I like to leave my camera in strange places.

nice, cant wait! oh yeah, the "long can 130" Tamiya motori have is a 180.. interested? i have a whole box of tamiya hyper dash 4wd 130 motors also..

I don't really know much about those motors or if they will mount on the gear heads I have. The reason I am using these gear motors is the range of gearing that is available, their 3mm output shafts and are capable of handling up to 12 volts.

I am starting off with a 5:1 which will have a final output of ~35:1 at the wheels. It should have lots of wheel speed but we'll see on the torque.
If I don't like the wheel speed\torque balance then it's just a matter of switching the whole gear motor out with another.

I appreciate the offer but I am just going to stick with what I know."thumbsup"

right on man, just keep posting pics, i will have to live vicariously through this build, my hands dont work in miniature..

Well, no roller yet but I do have an update. Got the front arms made but had to change the plan on the rear so that's why it's not rolling yet. I also have to make some hubs that accept the pins on these axles.

If anyone knows what ball joints these are let me know. I got them in a box of random stuff from a member here and don't know what they go to. They are definitely the smallest ones I have ever seen. The little balls inside the links are beads from my daughters craft box... they are about 3mm in diameter.

Well, got the front mocked up and I have to make a decision to keep on with these axles or wait on the "Nano's". I am not feeling the track width at all right now and the pumpkin is pretty ridiculous. I could possibly live with the pumpkin if the track width was better.... I don't know. Opinions:thinking:

this is very cool. hard to tell about the track width but doesn't look any more ridiculous than most 1;10 track widths vs bodies.

Great work on the chassis and suspension bits too.

"thumbsup"

Id have to agree with you Pablo. It looks like you took a 1:1 and put a set of GM 14 bolts on it.:D

EDIT 2 years later: Don't use a soldering iron. this was a rookie mistake and I ended up having to redo a few of these connections after some bashing. I have since been using a butane pencil torch on brass bits and works much better. Just thought I'd warn you before you read this part:

I got a couple PM's asking how I am brazing the brass. Usually you would use a torch to braze but these pieces are so small that the torch would literally blow them away. I am using a 70 watt soldering iron like this...

It's not as pretty when you do it like this but I don't have a jewler's torch and a little filing and painting will dress it up.

The rear finished up ready for links... then on to electrics, paint and details:

It ended up being a little different from the rough plan I drew up but in a good way.

The top link mount will have o be repositioned\rotated down... the ball completely got passed the goalie on that one.

Just needs to be tacked to the front of the block instead of on top. Shouldn't be too tough to fix.

Cool stuff going on here. I gotta hand it to you dude, 1:10th scale is too small for me sometimes...

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say.

I hear ya on the scale thing... I hope I can make it out of this build without developing carpel tunnel or arthritis.
