So, my next door neighbor passed in May, he was 82. His wife is just now being ok with getting rid of some stuff and asked my help with her RX7. Like I said, its an '88, with 63k original miles. My neighbor was very particular about his stuff, so its in fantastic condition with everything all original. She was the original owner, garage kept, never seen snow or rain. I drove it yesterday to make sure everything works and it does, I almost want to buy it, but have no idea what it's worth. I've spend the last few hours on google and have come up with numbers from 1200-6300. I would imagine her's would be on the higher end, but any help from you car guys as to what is a fair number? I don't really want to waste her time if I don't have to, but I'd like to get as much for it for her as possible. Thanks for any help. It looks like ebay would probably be the best bet. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

if its in good condition ebay would be the place to sell it. that way u can reach people from all over looking to buy it. plus u tend to get a little more.

If it's mint like you could put it out on the showroom floor, the 6k mark is reasonable. If it's just in really good condition maybe 4k. Average will bring about 2k or less.

Which model RX is it? GTU, GXL, Turbo, or base?

Model, mileage, and pics would be a bid help here. If its an un-molested Turbo with low miles in great shape there are plenty of people out there that would pay close to 6K for it

To the best of my knowledge, its an S4. Its not showroom quality, i'd say, but it's been babied and garaged its entire life, so it shows little signs of wear (the engine is super clean, as is the rest of the car). It's definitely not a turbo, just the regular engine, which should be the 1.3L? But it is definitely unmolested, low mileage and in great shape (again, not showroom, but pretty darn good). Do I need the VIN to find out exactly what model it is? I'm thinking its a GTU or GXL, but how do you tell the difference (I know its not turbo and probably not a base model, but I could be wrong)? Thanks for all the help, I'm an rx newb and the last few hours on google and you guys are my only info on these things. I can take some pics tomorrow if it doesn't rain, but it looks like every other one i've googled in red, so i'm not sure it'd really help, until we try to sell.

I see those go for 4-5k with high mileage and a fart pipe..

I think I'd start with 6k giving you room to negotiate..

should I try to sell local, or ebay? Or is there anywhere else that I should try?

Try local you'd be surprised...I had an old 61 studebaker and on craigslist I had a guy fly down from Canada to pick it up.

the only thing about ebay is if u do it as a auction u have to deal with that. i should have been more clear earlier. u can list it as a "classified" on ebay so u get alot of people to see it.

I drove it yesterday to make sure everything works and it does, I almost want to buy it, but have no idea what it's worth.

Lucky bugger!

I fell in love with rotary engines, (and by association Johnson snowmobiles and RX-7s), at the age of 13. Thirty years later, I haven't been able to weasel finances around enough to squeeze one into the budget.

Best of luck with your sale, hope it goes nice and smooth.
Hope the next owner gets many enjoyable miles out of it.

I know, I love it, but am probably buying her husbands mint range rover and can't justifty having 4 vehicles right now, and this one will make her some money, so I'm cutting my losses, you could say.
