Search didn't turn up much as to the pro's and con's of a digital servo vs. normal one.

Can some one list and lightly explain them please? Or link to an article would work too I guess.

my #1 reason for using digital is that they supply constant torque throughout the entire throw where analog does not.Very important in a crawler.

Digital servos have a type of high-frequency servo motor controller that allows them to center better, hold their positions better, and offer smoother and faster response. There is more "positions" or "steps" in a digital servo which allows them to feel smoother and more precise.

A similar analogy but not nearly as dramatic in results would be if you ever used an electric car with wiper arme/resistor mechanical speed control and then upgraded to a Electronic Speed Control (I'm dating myself for sure...)

The downside of Digital servos will be that the digital amplifier will continue to pump current into the servo motor at full throttle or idle. This can shorten lifespans and increase battery drain.

They can also be a little "chatty" too. Digital servos make a little more noise than analog, some brands more than others (ie - Hitec).

Because of the slow, clunky and less precise nature of crawlers, I fail to see how these tech improvements are worth while.

However, I can see digital servos being much better utilized in fast, street RC racers.

The thing is...at some point Analog servos "cap" out in terms of performance.

The "best" analog servo you can buy is going to top out areound 200/oz of torque at best.

Jump to the Dark side of Digital Servos and 400+ oz of torque can be had.

That's the *real* reason guys are buying digital servos.

I think people are over looking this.

When they rate an analog, its 200oz/in is rated at full, where it makes its best power, its middle power is not 200oz/in. It starts weak near center and gains power out to the ends.

A Digital servo holds the same torque throughout its entire movement.

Speed is also something a crawler can benefit from...shaking the steering can often drop your truck into a line better. I've benefitted from doing this many times.

Amen brother! I'm glad someone finally made this point!!!"thumbsup"
