Aggressive driver?

ohh EPiC FAiL;3334664 i am a defensive driver said:
X2....I used to have a sticker on the back of the table-top ute, said "want a convertible? keep tailgating and you'll get it." BAsically, ride my ass and I'll brake-check you. High-beam, you'll get it back point blank as you pass by. High beam from behind, I'll slow to let you pass then high beam you for a while. Wanna pass in a stupid spot, I'll speed match you. I do my best to have decent road manners, so I expect others to at least try do the same.

You people are the rudest on the road. There is 2 laws that very few people know.

1. Slower traffic keep right

2. Do not inpeded the flow of traffic

If your in the left lane (I.E fast lane, passing lane, lane 1) and you break check someone then you are a ass. You think you better then everyone else and what I call a road Nazi. The person behind you may be speeding but you are the one hendering others!! YOU are the hinderence. You are the slower traffic you are impeding the flow of traffic and you are causing congestion. It is you people that cause traffic. Who are you to dictate
what others are doing. In this you are in the wrong sitting on your high horse.

No, you're just being a dick. There's no point in "getting even", they don't know who you are and they don't give a fawk either. Maintain your speed and get over when its safe so that they can get by. Pissing them off doesn't make anything better, and could lead to one or both of you getting hurt. People have been shot over crap like that.

In our state, Michigan, no use of signals is a ticket as well as multi lane changing. Must remain in a lane for a few seconds before changing to the next. Passing on the right is also illegal.

That said, I'm defensive (years of riding a motorcycle), but not agressive. I stay out of the "fast" left lane unless I'm passing. I recently came home on a longer drive, I was in the right lane, this guy with a trailer had his cruise set to my speed, mirrored me for miles in the far left lane forcing people to pass him on the right.

About the only thing I do aggressive is not let people in when they wait until the last minute. I don't care about their hurry, they seen the merge signals...pushed a guy into a barrel once by him thinking he had the right of way in his shiny new Mercedes.

Its cool to make a Guy crash as long as you use your signal

You don't sound like an aggressive driver to me, but I am irritated by the fact that you have to continously switch lanes...slower traffic keep right!!!

I believe I am a defensive driver, as well as an aggressive driver. I speed up to switch lanes/get over if I need to turn...not slow down. I never enter the highway below the speed limit, etc. I also tend to use my trucks to intimidate other drivers, works very well. I hate when I have to drive my fiances car...just can't bully poor drivers. :ror:

Irritated at me or the traffic that doesn't keep right? Lol ya you'd be amazed to see that sometimes the eight lane is faster than the left lane because everyone thinks their going fast enough and that you can't go faster than them even though they are going well below the speed limit

how about 1.5 sec? Lol I'll stay in one lane depending on the flow and opportunity, oddly I look at the freeway as a chess board and I oddly plan a route ahead of me before I do it.
Could you explain the passing on the right? I think I understand but I'm still a little confused about that

Yea sorry that wasn't very clear, I meant the slower traffic that doesn't keep right

I can;t find the statute of exact time, maybe its officer determined in our state.

Passing on the right, is passing anyone in a right lane when they are in the left lane. So if Leftmost lane guy is going 40 in a 45, its a ticketable offense to pass him in any lane to the right of him.

I love my truck too much to not drive defensively. If you drive aggressively around here you WILL end up in an accident for sure.

That being said, my 7,5k lb diesel is always in the slow lane. People usually hate me because I allow A LOT of room between the car in front and I. Most people cant see around my truck and assume Im just driving too slow. When they come flying around they see that theres traffic in front and its not me being a dick. I really do hate when occassionally they cut into the "safety room" Ive left in front of me, which means theyre still not going any faster AND Im going to slow down even more to make that room back up and everyone behind just gets more pissed.

to the OP.....sounds to me like your just a impatient driver.

That's not neccessarily a bad thing as long as your courteous and try to minimise interference/interaction with the flow of traffic.
The bad thing is it will almost always draw attention to you from the "instructive driver" who thinks that the pace and way he drives is the only proper way and it is his "duty" to "educate" you by alterring his driving to force you into learning the proper speed, lane, ect. "thumbsup"

yep, same here.Though I do drive slow also,My best mileage is at 60-65 mph.
people get pissed cuz I wont pull over onto the shoulder annd let them pass.

I used to do that, but way to many flats, not worth the risk of slowing myself down with a flat to help them get there 5 min faster.

I don't mind if you make me pass...just don't glare as I go by AND don't get pissed if your lost in a cloud of black smoke :flipoff:

Just kidding, I don't intentially make it smoke...and try not to smoke any more than I have to but it is a result of big power with a diesel.

I don't think that's a good way to go about it, using your turn signal allows people to know if your going to be going into their lane so they can slow down or move over, many of times I've almost been hit because I was turning in to a middle lane and the person on the other side was too but they never put their turn signal on so I didn't know they were going in to the same lane as me. Almost crashed into each other.

Around here, using your turn signal just tells the "driver" in the other lane to speed up and close the gap before you get there. I use 'em anyway.

You either use them or not, Use them and be there before the other drivers and yea, Tailgate me and I slow down but if I'm on the bike I have a pocket full of ball bearings.

Old spark plugs are good for that, too, but the best anti-tailgating weapon I've used is a 100W driving light mounted on the package shelf.

Around here, 1-2 car lengths is the normal gap at highway speeds, even outside of town when there's no other traffic around. WTF is wrong with people? Exiting from the left lane is pretty common, too. Fawking idiots

Not really for aggressive driving, but how many of you come to a complete stop at a stop sign? Most just roll through them. It happens a lot around here where I live (they don't push my Ranger though, maybe the 35" BOGGERs scare them out of it). I have had a trailer full of cows hooked on my 1 ton and had people roll through stops signs enough to where I have had to swerve into the other lane to miss them. Sorry rant off now.....
As far as tailgating goes I just ease over to the shoulder, where all the dirt, rocks and sand collect, and politely sand blast the front of their car for them. they usually back off pretty quick.

IIRC in germany if you pass on the right you get you licence pulled, if you are in the fast lane and not passing someone or don't move for a faster car, you get your licence pulled. No ifs ands or buts!

You sound more like an "offensive driver".....and people like you cause traffic problems.

In my opinion its the people who slow down to change lanes and enter the highway below the speed limit that cause traffic problems...and the assholes who wait until last minute to merge when there have been signs for 2 miles stating the left lane is closed ahead!!!

And the Germany thing is true...they also have much stricter rules to even get theirs

generally, if I'm in the left/fast lane and see that I'm going faster then the guy in front of me, and if there's room for him to pull into the right lane... I will flash a couple of times. If there's not room for him to move over, I wait till there is.
If the person is an ass and doesn't move over or worse, hit's the brakes I'll just wait to pass. But, I think everyone knows that a light flash is a POLITE way of asking for the right of way. Maybe that's just because I grew up around truck drivers...

If I'm in the fast lane and someone is coming up behind me, I always move over and let them by.

I spend a lot of time watching and waiting for an opening. I honestly feel that my driving should not hinder anyone else.

If someone threw a handfull of ball bearings at me, I don't think I would be able to control my temper

EDIT: I've never had a problem with a biker. I used to ride and give them a wide berth. I also know a few bikers that carry hammers, ball bearings and other crap.

yeah ok I can see how what i said comes off like that.
To clarify-
  • High beam lights. I never use high beam in built-up suburban areas, only out on the back roads and highways with other traffic around, that are signed as being 100km/h zones. When using high beam, if there is on-coming traffic or I'm following traffic, no matter how far away they are, I dip my lights to low beam. On the roads I travel around here, that in itself is a bit dangerous, with kangaroos everywhere.Visibilty goes from good to next to nothing very quickly.I don't like my eyes being dazzled, so I don't do it to others; it's just a common courtesy. HOWEVER, if you're gunna drive at me or follow me and do that to me, I will respond likewise to point out what it's like.
  • Brake checking. When I say brake-check, I mean tap the brakes to use the lights to let them know to back the f**k off. I'm not interested in hurting myself and damaging my vehicle in an attempt to slow someone down, that's just moronic. Most times if the road situation dictates it, I'll give them a turn signal to let them know to come around. I'm talking about knob-ends that insist on crawling up my arse and sitting there for no other reason than they are being a hemaroid.
  • Matching speed to not allow overtaking. I'm in traffic on a local road that is just wide enough for 2 cars, 1 lane each direction. I've made sure the vehicle in front of me is a good 4 seconds ahead to allow for me to take evasive action if I have to. We, the flowing traffic are doing the limit or just over. Some dipshit comes excessively speeding up behind us, slows, then trys to get around me with oncoming traffic bearing down. With traffic behind me, oncoming traffic (that is most likely a large B-double truck), I'm am going to do what I have to to hold my safe position in traffic, and that means matching their speed to keep him out of my safe driving space. My safety comes first, not someone elses who is doing the wrong thing.
  • SItting in the slow lane. Again, my local roads, most often there is no slow lane, it's just one direction per lane on a 2 lane road. I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal to travel at a speed that chokes traffic to the point of having more than 3 vehicles banked up behind you. It's also illegal to travel in the fast lane on a multi-lane highway unless you're overtaking. That's $250 odd right there. I like to travel just on or just over the speed limit most of the time so I'm not the one choking traffic: I hate it so I don't do it. The rare occasions I've been towing a trailer and had to travel slow, I've pulled over frequently to let traffic thru to keep my manners in check.
  • Changing lanes a lot. I don't do it, but I'll address it anyway. I pick a lane and stick to it. I scan the traffic coming up, then choose a lane. If I get stuck behind a slower vehicle, who cares, it's a multi-lane highway, there'll be a chance to get around in a second. The one exception to staying in a lane with traffic behind is if my exit is coming up; this only really applies in the big city when I go down to Sydney. I don't like missing an exit and getting lost in a city I don't know.
Long winded I know, but on re-reading my first post here, it does look like I'm a bit of a road hog with bad manners. And yes to a point I am, but that's because I consider myself to have decent road manners for the local conditions and take exception to others not displaying at least some sort of effort to have the same manners. When I travel to big cities where there are road and driving differances, I try to follow the flow of traffic, to fit in so I'm not the problem.

So like others have said, I would consider myself to be a defensive driver, but in an aggressive way.

I agree with you on that j.when he said he used his truck to "intemidate"
that said it clear as a bell.

You know, not everyone reacs to "intemidation" the same way.
some will just shrug it off and it will have o affect on them
some will get scared, and that couold cause them to make a foolish error.
some may have just gotten served thier divorce letters,or lost a looved one.
and they may unload on you and those riding with you.

either way,if you try to intimidat people " I used to aswell"
its a sighn of your imaturity,I'm getting old,and as such dont drive like a child anylonger.

the poeple who drive the right side till the end, there are 2 ways to look at it IMO and both are true.

1.they are jerks, and its not curtious to the rest of the traffic.
2.they are using every linear foot of highway they are legally allowed to drive.
after all, there is nothing against the law about it,and as such,IMO they are less a problem than thse who do 10 over the limit.

now for people who drive slow.....I drive what I feel safe.
if its 10 under, then so be it,if it pisses people off,so be it.
I have driven fast, and I have driven slow, slower is safer IMO.
