Axial SCX10 ii review by Holmes Hobbies

I will be doing a re-review that is more thorough and technical after having some time to digest all the rig features. A video that compares it to the Ascender will be done later after I get some time wheeling it.

I found that the chubs will turn on the axle pretty easy. Mine are as tight and on a trail run this weekend they got wet and twisted around on the axle. I am working on making a set screw for the top to hold them in place.
 
Nice review I have an scx10-11 on order. I also have the scx Rubicon which I like but waiting for the new.

Finally got a chance to get this sucker out on the rocks for a short stint, and it performs as good as expected. Very minimal torque twist, and VERY impressive abilities even with a 4 cell 5000mah pack weighing it down.


Gotta say, there isn't really a downside to this kit except for the higher price because of licensing the Jeep body. I'm more focused on the actual truck design though, and not the particulars of this kit body that I won't be installing.
 
Got one climb on film before my transmitter died. Luckily, I hit the line the first try. This rock has rejected all other 1.9 RTR rigs when dry, including the SCX10 platform with 1300mah teeny pack. I threw the absolute biggest battery into the rig on purpose to test the worst case performance. Add in wet rocks and there is no way it could make it with stock tires and foams, right???

I have another vid uploading with wheelspeed tests and wiring overview. It sure is easy to spend 10 minutes talking about the rig!
 
My first electronics choices for the SCX10ii platform are outlined in the following vid. Wheelspeed? Check! Low speed control? Check! Blazing fast servo with ridiculous torque? Check!


You might want to watch this vid, and then rewatch the wet rock climb. Keep in mind how much wheelspeed the rig has on tap while carefully climbing the rock. It's almost like we design and manufacture motors specifically for crawlers, eh? :lol:

Looking good sir. My Servo and ESC combo arrives tomorrow, can't wait to wire it up! The simplicity really makes me happy.
 
Decided to put a brushless system in it. Brushed has that supurb feel, but brushless just gives me the wheelspeed and reliability I prefer. The guy that has built 10s of thousands of brushed motors gets tired of servicing his own brushed motors sometimes.

Excellent stuff sir. I put the BLE/540 combo in my Bomber and I'm literally amazed at how it does at low speed. That servo though, I'm in love!

No disputing the traction of the KLRs. What compound did you pick? "thumbsup"
 
Hats off to the engineers. They did a lot of work with forward thinking. How many hundreds of engineering hours?
Maybe they should of put a few more into the cms, why on earth did they position the servo horn directly above the panhard link:shock:

I changed battery weight to see the "spread" of traction. In every case, the KLRs had far less slippage. Practically none. Even the heaviest setup with stock tires didn't come close to lightest setup with VooDoo's. I have silvers on this rig with the voodoo light rig foams.

Because it works so damn good! Slight inconvenience for performance. Pivot locations need to be very close together to eliminate bump steer. I forget the rig is CMS frequently and others have told me the same. I've never had a rig with CMS that didn't constantly remind me it was there, NEVER! Hands down the best CMS geometry I've driven to date, as good or better than a few custom rigs built by guys who build full size too.
 
Haven't had much chance to work or play with the rig in the past weeks. I've been covering for workers, doing customer service and production tasks on top of my regular load. We are fully staffed this week though, which means I've got some time to play with toys again. It's good to be the boss when everything goes as planned.
