So I broke down and bought a axial wraith spawn, really wanting to get into crawling. I'm just looking for advice on really beneficial upgrades for this rig to make it perform better.

I've had mine for years. Look up moving battery to the front, that's the best thing I have done to mine. Another part to change out in the front axle is the axle shafts go to the CVD type they are stronger and will give you tighter turning. I use 2S 2200mAh 35C LIPO batteries as they are smaller and lighter but still run for over an hour and it's fast enough for me. Crawling is how I roll. Mine is a kit so it does have metal links and I run a brushless sensored motor, a cheap steering servo and FlySky radio system. The suspension articulation is amazing. I would have to tell you just take it out and run it, sure you can buy all sorts of upgrades and throw money at it like crazy but I figured when something broke that's when I would upgrade. I have a blast with mine and the only thing I have broke was the front bumper/stinger. The 2.2 tires it comes with are good and the size of the tire is why it crawls so well. Tires and foam inserts would be the next upgrade for you.

Google Wraith modifications, you will see a You Tube by Harley Designs, he has really good mods you can do for free. Get yourself a good set of tools, I use MIP hex drivers.

Get a good charger and if you are going to run LIPO batteries make sure to do some research on how to use them safely. Now go have fun!
