What do most people use to power their winches? Separate battery or Y-plug. If separate battery, what size?

I use one battery on my rig and use a BEC that runs the RX, servo and winch. I don't see a benefit of a second battery. More weight and the more space it takes up on the rig.

for my 3racing winch i run a seperate battery. usually a nimh in the 1500-3000mah range. but you can run what ever you want.. winches dont use a lot of power so you could use like a 450mah lipo or something for it..

im converting to lipo from nimh in my honcho so i'll stick the lipo battery on the batt plate with velcro and since i was gonna leave my nimh battery in the truck for weight anyways i can hook it up to the winch controller to run the winch then use the lipo to run the truck.

i have no experience with a Y adapter.
