I was getting beer at the liquor store and came across this interestingly named beverage. No thanks.

Anyone enjoying any winter brews? Locally the Heavy Seas brewery put out the 'Winter Storm' about a month ago, been enjoying a few of those. Local brew pub had a 12% double bock that lasted about 3 weeks!

"J" day is long gone here, thats the day every year when the breweries put out the special X mas beer.
I assume the micro/mini breweries is allso on that bandwagon, but i am not sure as i no longer drink the stuff.

"J" is short for Julebrew " X-mas beer "
Normally the x-mas beers is 2X the strength of normal beer, so you get "merry" a bit faster.

For sure a Danish tradition you Americans should adopt in return for us adopting all your hollydays and what not traditions.

A somwhat sucessfull googletranslate of wiki

I'm bumping this thread because when I'm not working on RC toys I'm running my company which is a hard cider company. I've been a huge craft beer drinker, advocate, and brewer for a very long time. Just sitting here drinking a great beer from a local brewery a friend owns and was thinking there had to be a beer thread on here somewhere. I found it, and I'm single-handedly resurrecting it...

Cheers RCC readers!

You are welcome.

And after this you know a little more about Danish beer.

They use to have a beer called Albani, do you know if it's still being made? The one in the green bottle is the one I'm looking for. When I was stationed in Hawaii in the late 70's, a friend turned me on to it. I've looked for it stateside, but all the distributors say they can't order just 1 case, so I haven't had it in 40 years. I thought it was one of the better beers made, low carbonation, but still packs a punch.

I think Albani ( from the town of Odense like the poet Hans Christian Andersen ) are still made, but the brewery have been eaten up by the big ones, as did Ceres from my birth town of Aarhus.

Albani have been around for 150 years, the giraffe beer was made in 1962 the first time in honor of a giraffe named Kalle in Odense Zoo that died.
The giraffe beer are 7.2 % and was first made to raise money for a new giraffe for the zoo, it is still brewed.

There are even a gold giraf now, that one are 10%

Most breweries here have one or more of such double / triple strength beers, Carlsbarg have the 7.2% Elephant that have been made since 1952.

Plano liquors and wine, may be able to help you, they don't have Albani in stock but might maybe be able to source some for you.
Albani are now part of the Royal unibrew group.

Nice tap! But what are all those other strange taps? Shouldn't they all say Browneye???

They do now...just haven't taken updated pics. ;-)

The kegging thing is new. Finally. I converted one of my 'fermenting chambers' (upright freezer) into a kegerator. 4 taps out front and room for 4 corny kegs. I've been putting it off cuz it's expensive - probly dropped close to a grand to set everything up. But the beer is SOOOO good out of the keg. "thumbsup"

Gonna see about bringing some for PLBF. There...another reason to show up.

I quit drinking about a year ago, but ill chime in...

breakfast stout by founders and victory at sea by ballast point are my two favorite beers.

ive had my fair share of different IPA's.. but the all day IPA by founders was probably by far my favorite "race day" beer.

with that being said.. I just enjoy my root beers now. ever since ive been on afternoons, I just really didnt see a point drinking my favorites anymore.

Thats awesome! I think a Kegerator would get me into trouble either that or I'd never leave the house

That looks good Browneye, I like black beers

That's actually a red lager - a knock off of what Anhauser Busche made last year for the summer. We liked it so well we've copied it a couple of times. It looks black in the carboy, but in a glass it's dark red and it's a lager (takes 2 months) and it's super smooth like a lager.

The beer thing, and making and tasting them, its just phenomenal. We've made about a hundred batches of beer in the past 2 years. Just doubled our production from 5gl to 10gl batches. That's a about a hundred 12oz beers. We give a lot a way and drink a lot of them too. We make about 150 to 200 beers a month. Cost is about fifty cents to a buck a beer. It's $5 to $7 in a tasting room. ;-)

The Germans actually think beer is food. LOL
