Best Beef Jerky you had?

Hwy 14 just outside Apple Valley in between LA and Las Vegas. Middle of the freakin' desert. We stopped and bought jerky from a random place on the side of the road. For all I know, it was made from people buried up to their necks in someone's back yard.:shock: WOW, was that stuff good.

Is cannibalism wrong?

Had the Off-road Jerky at ECC this year it was good but I like my jerky really dry, it was a little too moist for me.

I can't remember which flavor it was, but one of the Off Road Jerky flavors was really dry, needed quite a few beers with one piece "thumbsup" Whiskey BBQ is pretty moist and sticky, but the flavor combo is just awesome, especially at a comp.

I'm in with the homemade venison camp. Found a couple recipes on the net for some ideas and did it a few couples of years in a row. Next best was something out of Vermont, but I don't recall the name.

Ho made for the win! I used to like venison the best but for the last few years I'm all for the Elk jerky. And Elk steaks and ground Elk burgers and...

Hands down ...jack links jerky
Not hard nice and tender

never give up on something you can't go a day without thinking about

I like the stuff I make over any store-bought jerky.

Me too.
The commercial brands seem to have a sort of chemical taste, and who knows what cuts they use...... bits and scraps perhaps.
I like to use the best quality London broil, and cut nice thick slabs, not skinny flat pieces like chips, slow cured with lots of natural flavour, no wierd sauces with preservatives and food coloring, MSG ect.

Had some jerkyhut jerky, was let down by it, it was like carmelized dehydrated skirt steak... would have been fine but there wasn't really anything on the ingredients list that I liked.... I've always been happy with home made elk jerky or the stuff you get that comes in flat sheets thats pounded paper thin... most gas stations around placerville had it. wasn't amazing but it did the trick.

Obviously home made is probably the best you could ever get since you can flavor it to your liking but if you have not tried the Offroadjerky you are missing out. I have to throw another vote for the Whiskey BBQ flavor. The meat is very soft and its true, it is actually sticky on your hands. MMMM I gotta go finish a bag of it I got this past weekend now!"thumbsup"

awesome thread

Awesome Thread............ "thumbsup"

there is no beating a Home made batch of Jerky! ( certainly not the exotics like Buffalo, Deer, elk, Moose, Alligator, Salmon, those are for sure the best)
with that being said offroadjerky is not like Jack links, pemekin, JerkyHut etc.
they are so mass produced they have a ton of preservatives so they can have a shelf life for years YUK!

OffRoadJerky.com jerky is the closes you will get to home made.
Grade A USDA Beef. with the absolute Minimum Preservatives the FDA will alow, the jerky that i bring to the comps ECC, AWCC, Nats is always only a week old MAX

my Fav is Whisky BBQ (note safe for minors, the alcohol evaporates in the cooking process )

we offer
(sticky good Jerky )
Whiskey BBQ
Sweet & Spicy
Teriyaki

(dryer older fashion jerky )
Reel Weastern
Hickory
HOT!

Im not planning on taking it to Nationals unless i hear otherwise from the people running that want me too, its going to be hot and im Judging 3 days so i will have to bring an ice chest to put it in if its wanted.

LMK, Thanks Mark "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

I still havent gotten around to making my own but Im sure everyone is right about homemade being the best, just like anything else.

As for store bought, before you turn your nose up go and buy a pack...if you can find it....Jack Links Carne Seca. Its the best store bought Ive ever had.
