Brass Brazing: Please Help!

Soldering and Brazing are two different ways of joining metal, Soldering is used for low temp work where the PSI strength is not as critical, Brazing involves higher temps and the filler material (solder wire) has a higher melting temp and a much higher PSI strength. Typical soldering wire has a very low content of silver, anywhere from 5% to 10%, brazing (silver soldering) filler has at least 45% silver (depending on the application) and much higher tensile strength.

The "Brazing Book Online" has more info than you will ever need, but it's free and worth having a look at

Nice MG! Some complicated bends mixed in there. The soldering looks very clean! Is that 3/32" tube? It looks thin enough to even be 1/16".

Thanks hrddrvr! It is 1/16" rod actually, same as what I used on "little creepy" In person or pictures I think it fits the bodies well and is plenty strong.

I've done a ton of brazing with brass, I found what works best me is a quality micro torch and regular 60/40 solder but in a very small diameter and of course a flux. I've tried several different fluxes and all work about the same but some have lmuch less of a residue and clean up easier.
I also went to Home Depot and bought a ceramic floor tile 24" square, it is flame and heat resitant and a perfectly flat service thats makes a great building foundation. A bench vise and small anvil are also very handy

Check out some of my work for ideas
