I am attempting to make this pretty scale and baseing it off of my pops's 73 Bronco. This is my first build. All and any comments welcome. It's in the beginning stages, but, starting to come around. I am still working out the kinks with the rear suspension. As well as the overall build.

As it sits now.

The 73 Bronco I am aiming for this to look like. With some additional work to is as well.

how do the coils cycle through movement? i had some on a build and they looked great uncompressed but once they started compressing the coils buckled out in a very unlinear fashion. that was with 2.2's and maxx sized springs.

I was at first trying to use some coils from my old T-maxx. They were a softer spring. I got the same result. I then got some TA Rc10 coil springs and that seemed to help out. I am not quite sure as to how well it work with the weight of everything else that is going to be on the rig. But, for now. when I manually flex it out. It doesn't buckle near as much as with the Maxx springs.

I plan on doing some interior work to this rig and I think that the pede tranny isn't going to work out. May have to find something else. Sits too high and looks like in my mock up that it will interfere with the seats.

This may be a pretty long build, so bear with me. LOL I am probably in over my head, but, what the hell, sure is fun.

I should have some more updates later this week.

Thanks for looking."thumbsup"

Naw, gonna use an HPI Bronco body and then attempt to make the cab for it. The ambush body is killer looking too though.

Sorry, not really an update. More of an issue. Being this is my first build, I don't know all the tricks.

For instance. My pede tranny will/should end up working. Mocking up my tranny cover and ready to mount it. However, my shafts are too short. I did some research on here. And what I found was this link: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=41181

My deal is , this thread is awfully old. Is this still the norm for extending my pede shafts? Or, is there a new trick out there? Thanks for any help.

I did remount the rear shocks. Still , very much lack of flex in the rear, even with the Diaz springs. Front looks good, pretty solid suprisingly. I still have to center the front end a little more, coils are kinda uneven from the side. I will be doing some good time of work on the rig this weekend. Should have more updates and pics."thumbsup"

Yeah thats still the most popular way of extending driveshafts.

I'd heed what K_Willis said and use two females. As they slide better over rock and are harder to break.

for a first build it looks extreamley nice...and ill tell you one thing, i never messed with diaz leafs, even though i want to put them on my truck, but the tamiya leafs dont offer alot of flex, so if you think your truck dosent flex alot, mine dont ether, but the best thing to do is 4 link the rear, and leaf the frount, it works really good on my truck, but one thing i learnd is that is all trial and error

oh, i forgot to add, i tryed both coil over shock, and a coil with a seperate shock..personally on my truck i have the coil over shock with it going down to the bottom 4 links at a slight angle, and it works really good so far...

ive also switched the 4 link around so its up frount like yours, it worked ok, the old leafs i had couldent take the torque, so i switched it around, and it works perfict, but the frount leafs get bent up from driving....but like i said befor trial and error, what ever suits your driving style.....

Thanks for the info/advice footstamp. I knew in the beginning that I wasn't going to get alot of flex from the rear. I just thought a little more then what I got. LOL. Being that this is gonna be as close to a 1:1 scale as possible, I am probably just gonna leave as is for now. See how it goes. When I first tested the flex I thought " Yep, flexes like a stock Bronco.". hah.

My second build that I do is gonna be a little more flex friendly and not as in depth as this one should be.

I think. .... Who knows, lol, I will see what happens..

ya, no problem, ya these crawlers get fun, but some times i get really frusterated, but if you really put you mind to something you can make something really cool...but ya, come on i want to see some progress, what color are you going to paint this?

Well, the body is gonna be the color brown, like in the first post in this thread. I am in the process of figuring out how I am gonna build the cab/shell. .Seeing that HPI only made the bronco as a race/ pickup.. My weekend has been all messed up . Not sure how much I will get done. But, there is always tomorrow.. lol

I will have some updates soon.

Update with some pics

Well.
Been a while for an update. Family and work has been killer. Anyhow. I manage to cut up my Bronco body and get it prepped for the hard top I am making for it. Also built up my first Rollbar/cage that I "attempted" to braze , but, that didn't work out. LOL. I think I need that Safety Silv 56 flux. I tried using fluxless brazing rods, but, they wouldn't stick. So, off to the welder's shop I go. I also got my ghetto fabbed tranny mount built up. Soon, very soon, this headache will be together and rollin.

So much for the Brown this rig was gonna be. Decided for a Dark Green Pearl. Turned out all right.

Tranny plate.

It's coming together. Once the cage is brazed. I will put it all back together. Thanks for looking.
