Looking for new treads for my xr and wanting pin tires and not sure which set to go with and whether to stagger the compound front/rear.... So whatcha think

those khaos tires look very wide. is that a concern to anyone or would it have some benefits.
I have both the boss claws and khaos tires in red compound. They perform VERY similar (same cut on both sets). If the course has big breakovers, I would run the Khaos, steep sidehills, run boss claws. Also the XR can get away with the shorter boss claws a little easier than some other axles.

Has anyone tried mixing silver and red claws or pink,white,red khaos to see if that works any better? I picked up a set of red claws over the weekend and got them cut and mounted. They work good on my little test course hopefully they will work good on some good rock"thumbsup"

I prefer the Khaos tires for the extra height.
I have run Pink, Red and White Khaos. I have run Pink, Red and White Blocks. My favorite tire and compound are Red Blocks. I have been testing them and so have a few team drivers and customers for the last six months now.
Red is the most popular compound, and the one I would recommend if your budget will only only allow you one set of tires.
My thoughts on the Pink compound, very soft tire. It works very well. Especially on wet surfaces where the water / moisture will keep the tire clean. They will pull lines easier then the red, but since they are softer, they wear out much quicker. They also need a little more foam tuning to make them perfect because the tire is soft. Having one pair for the front for tough lines might be a good idea.
My thoughts on the White compound, good rear tire. It's hard to believe the white compound is the same as the Rover and Sedona. The white is much stiffer. It lasts a long time. I only use the white compound in the rear. They do not perform as well in the front because the tire compound is so much harder at the lug. This compound is nice to have if you have the time and money to really test with it, or if you are looking for a good quality tire that will last long.
I would never run a boss claw, but I'm a custom tire and foam maker so I don't have to. The Khaos and Block have proven themselves in competition over and over above the Boss Claw. I have customer emails and stories to prove it. The Khaos is taller, has a more square tire profile, and it does not have large side lugs. It's also the same height as any Rover and Sedonas which means I can change tires without any effect to my ride height. The RC Crawler stays at the same height and I know my crawler will be consistent.
I have not yet tried mixing actually compounds by cutting tires in half and re-gluing them together. I have not found a need for it. The Pink and Red have covered everything I have tested them on. I have mixed different compounds on race tires though with good results.

In those videos 4 out of 5 trucks are running Khaos tires and the Losi was running Boss Claws. I would agree that there isn't much of a difference other than the height, but of course I like my tires better because they are on my truck and the haven't failed me yet :mrgreen:
From what I can see, this is correct.
That is because we are running them on wide wheels. With this tire I run a 1.25" wide wheel up front a 1" out back. I like that the front contact patch (where the most traction is needed) is nice and flat with this setup.

So with these Khaos tires, the only ones i found were for a DT8, so i am assuming that the wheel sizes are different and that would mean custom cutting and gluing them up for a 2.2 or did i just not look good enough? thanks for the help
You are correct. Khaos Truggy tires and a comp 2.2 tire sidewall are used.
You can get them pre-made from the custom tire master himself at Crawler Innovations. "thumbsup"

awwww, thank you very much! Curious how well the sidewall holds up being cut and glued like that... and i saw that he recommends running then on a wider wheel... right now i am running the 1" SLW V5 front and rear...
just have alot of questions is all sorry, i am looking for a new set of tires and all my buddies run the Losi BC and i tried a set out on my ax10 and liked them but am running the HB Rovers White Dot right now. Just trying to get all the info i can so i can make a good decision... thanks again"thumbsup"

My sidewalls have held up great and Szczerba's tires in the video were made before September of last year and they are still getting ran today. I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure that they were the first set ever made.. :shock:

WOW! :shock: Thanks for the great info... now i just gotta see what i wanna spend my money LOL "thumbsup" too many things i wanna upgrade (and they are all spendy) looking into the Super 300's right now, then possibly a new motor from HH then always looking at tires. Thanks again for the help I will look into these more and see what happens.

if got a set ( with sedona walls) but i love my boss claws because the foam setup is perfect.
i dont found a good setup for the Khaos. any tips??

TC09Mini runs Khaos tires with sedona sidewalls. He would be able to tell you what works for him. I have seen his setup in action and you can see it in the video above.
I have had good results with memory outers and a medium inner. It all falls down to preference though. I like a super soft tire but I want ultimate sidwall support so I have to find a happy medium. Delrin inner support rings help with that as well.

I am running rover sidewalls and these tires will be a year old in Sept. I like to run a soft but not too soft setup in the front. I run a front inner support ring. I would recommend to be on the soft to medium soft side of a front foam setup. I have seen some pin tires stuffed too full of foam up front. In the rear a med-to firm foam setup is what I like.
