Caltrans Saftey stand down

I drive cautiously around road crew, because its just common sense. Though not all of them have common sense...

I got yelled at once by a road crew who were repainting lines at an intersection during morning rush hour. No signs or cones up, just 6 guys painting stripes while thousands of people were trying to get to work and having a fit because everyone was messing up their paintjob. WTF did you think was going to happen? :ror:

Governor Brown Issues Statement on Death of Caltrans Worker
SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of Caltrans worker Richard Gonzalez:

“Anne and I join the family, friends and Caltrans colleagues of Richard Gonzalez in mourning his death,” Governor Brown said. “As we cope with this tragedy, I remind all Californians to stay alert on our roadways and slow down when Caltrans workers are present.”

Gonzalez, 52, of San Ysidro, has been working with Caltrans since July 2008. He was struck and killed this morning by a vehicle while picking up litter along the northbound Interstate 15 connector ramp to eastbound State Route 94 in San Diego. Gonzalez is survived by his wife Ruth and two children, Ron, 22 and Erick, 12.

In response to today’s fatality, the third in 48 days, Caltrans has called a statewide safety stand down to emphasize safety procedures. All routine or regularly-scheduled highway maintenance activities are being temporarily halted to revisit and reinforce all aspects of field safety and to ask the public for help. Caltrans will post notices on its statewide network of more than 700 electronic highway message signs reminding motorists to watch out for Caltrans employees.

In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol.

People are in too much of a damned hurry, and too self-important to watch out for anyone other them themselves, especially here in SoCal.

This is why you see more and more CHP cars at road construction sites, for some reason people don't notice all of the signs and orange cones, but they can spot a CHP car miles away...

I agree that people need to be more careful, but those f$%king electronic signs cause more problems than they're worth.:x

i like the construction sighs i saw when i was down in florida. they said please slow down my mommy works here and please slow down my daddy works here and they were done in "kids" handwriting.
and i thought we had some bad drivers here in new jersey:flipoff:
