Casio Boulder cell phone.

Would be nice if it had a normal compass, so that you could get unlost if the battery died.

I have the Casio GZone and I love it. I work in a machine shop and it takes a pretty good beating. I watched the Verizon rep throw the phone against the wall, drop on the floor while it was open, and the dunk it in water. The entire phone has rubber seals everywhere. It is supposed to withstand 30min in 10-12 ft of water. I haven't tried that though. It was built around a mil-spec rating though. Mine does not have the compass it is last years model

both me and a friend have the GZ 1, I have beaten the snot out of mine, but my friend has lite it on fire, mixed drinks, buried it in the sand and waited till the tide came in and went then dug it back up, made a call from the bottom of a pool, played hacky sack with it, pretty much a group of us were on a mission to destroy it (within reason). the only thing that stopped us was he lost it. I will always own a Gz 1 as long as they make them.

Thanks for posting this. I'll definitely have to look into that thing when my contract is up. My Treo 755 hasn't broken on me yet, but my 700 didn't last long. It'd be nice to not even have to worry about it.

the fun thing to do is randomly take the phone out of my pocket and throw it, then watch the expressions of the people around you. did it once at a verizon store and the kid behind the counter almost pooped himself.

Well I am a verizon user myself and am in need to replace my Samsung A670. The only thing holding me back is the ability to hook an external antenna to most all of the new phones. I need one I can hook a remote mounted antenna to without needing to spend almost 400 dollars on a wireless amp in the big truck.

That and it needs to except a regular boom style headset. I hate them blue tooth headsets that you stick in your ear.

Ok thanks for the replies, now for some serious questions.

How does the ringer volume compare to a normal phone? will I hear it in the noise of a construction site?

How about the vibrate feature, can I feel it through my carhartts?

I've read reviews that say the call quality is lacking...have you noticed anything, or are the reviews just being negative because it doesn't have all the bells and whistles the other phones have?

The only complaints I have been getting are audio quality...

This is due to them stepping up the waterproofing on the phone, there is a thin membrane over the speaker, and with some voice frequencies and the volume cranked up it can rattle or sound like you are listening through a bag.

the volume and vibrate are on par with other phones, I use a headset with mine and no problems, it does not have blue tooth so I can't look like a mentally challenged person talking to his invisable friend as I'm walking down the street.
insulated carharts would make any volume or vibrate useless, although I can feel the vibrate well in my insulated bibs. for some reason the only place I have signal problems are in Targets, it doesn't matter which Target, everyone I've been to I lose signal, it's wierd.
audio quality is perfectly fine too, if someone is having audio issues it's the service or they got a lemon.
there is only one thing I would like to see on mine, a usb hookup.

FYI I picked my phone up today, so far so good, crap was they couldn't transfer my contact list, 3 hours later I'm done.:-(

Good news is they now come with a free extra battery"thumbsup" that almost never happens with cellphones

I think I'm going to drop it in a pitcher to see if its really water proof:ror:

just freaked out a bunch of chinese guys that work for me by walking by a 55 gallon drum of water and throwing it in, then dumped over the barrel and called one of the guys that watched the whole thing, this phone continues to be fun even after owning it almost 2 years.
january I'm getting a new one and the beatings will continue.

please don't do that...

they use the word "resistiant" for a reason...

does the phone have the water marker? and is it still not covered by warranty? considering its a selling point you think this phone wouldn't be subject to the same rules but who knows

Well it's water resistant...

there are still markers, but they are inside the headset port, and charging port, because those have to be closed for it to defend water...

I wouldn't go around intentionally trying to destroy the thing though, I have personally denied a few warr. claims because you could tell they intentionally tried to break the darn thing..
