Castle BEC 2.0 and traxxas reciever question

Hey guys.


Quick questionsabout the output wires of the BEC. I purchased a trx4 with this bec installed powering the steering servo directly(signal wire to reciever) . Everything works as should. I’m taking it apart a & I noticed that the other set of output wires are just taped,not connected. I installed the same type of BEC into my other trx4 & in the manual it says both need to be connected to a port on the reciever.


1. Should the output wires be connected to the reciever with the red power wire from the esc removed?

2. If not,can I run my LED’s from the extra output wires from the BEC?

3. Can I run 7.4v to the stock reciever ,or will it burn out? I’ve searched & came up with no definitive answer,so if there’s someone who has actually ran 7+ volts can answer this,please do!

Warning: The stock TRX4 receiver and all the shift servos are rated at 6v. DO NOT run them at 7.4v unless you want to replace all that stuff.

As for your BEC question, what other set of output wires are you talking about? What brand BEC? A pic would be helpful.

Says right in his title, "Castle BEC 2.0 and traxxas reciever question".

@underscorepatrick the Castle v2 BEC has two outputs both putting out the same voltage for accessories.

Thank you for the info . So on my other trx4,I can have just 1 set of output wires running to the reciever ,& an accessory plugged directly to the other set?

The way the manual has it, wouldn’t it burn out the reciever ? By having 2 sources of power ?

The problem I’m having is,my ESC is overheating with the 5” lightbar & 2 LED’s . I wouldn’t think that LED’s drew that much,but I guess so. I’ll try to connect them to the open output of the BEC.

The esc which powers the reciever and servos has a built in 6v bec. The castle bec was probably added to power a larger steering servo then the esc bec could handle. And possibly a higher voltage then the reciever can handle.

There is no need to use the castle bec to power the shift and diff servos or reciever as the esc bec is already handling that.

The separate castle bec just allows you to pump more power to the sterring servo.
Don't connect the castle bec to the reciever at 7.4v.

Basicaly leave it how it was given to you.

As long as the led wires can handle 7.4v then you can use the second leads from the castle bec to power them. If they can handle 12. 6v and you use 3s you can solder a (jst) plug to the main esc battery leads for more voltage.

And put something more reliable then tape on the unused bec leads, if that falls off and they short out, it will burn out your castle bec. You can buy a lifetime supply of heat shrink Tubing for 5$ on the interwebs.

So pretty much,what I wanted to know,is if I can use the output power leads from the BEC to power an accessory,& the other connected to the reciever to power the ESC/or straight to the steering servo .. the reason why I’m asking this question,is because in the install manual,it’s sating to connect BOTH output power wires to their own seperate port on the reciever..

But ,if we’re both on the same page,the. You answered my question,k for that,8 thank you

you keep asking to connect the bec to the receiver, dont do that. you get reduced functionality.

The esc powers the reciever, not the other way around.

If you set the Castle bec to 6v and disconnect the power between the receiver and esc you can power the esc from the castle bec, but why do that?

Sounds like you are trying to unfix what isn't broken.

My suggestion is to power the reciever from the esc. Power the servo from the castle bec.
If the accessory lights are 12v power them from the 12.6v 3s battery.
I don't know how many volts are coming out of your castle bec, but you should find out before using that second set of power wires.

You could use the extra castle bec wires to power the reciever. But I wouldn't suggest it. Can cause failures if not done right, and offers no benefit.
