Cheap Rally car???

I went with KYB GR2 struts and kept the stock springs. Neons don't have much suspension travel, so lowering a rally car will hurt you.

Are you staying stock in the motor or improving the cam?
No all parts of the drive train must remain stock the only things I can change are things that are the same as OEM or the exhaust behind the cat. Thats really it unless it involves safety equipment.
The KYB struts will be the ones I will be getting, I have heard quite a few good things about them especially for the price, I was going to stay with stock springs, but plan to get a new pair, mine are done.
This car will never get lowered if anything it will go up an inch or two."thumbsup" But then again I have to see if the rules will permit it.

well the tires look good still!

cant wait to see this thing race ready and some action of it.
Yeah I have only spun the tires a few times since I put them on.

Race ready is the goal, technically she is ready now, but to be full staged preped is going to take a bit of time, Im hoping over the next 6 to 8 months she will be ready for stage, and hopefully I will be too. The ultimate goal is to be ready for a few random stage events by 2011.

civc will out run any of those cars.. dollar for dollar youll get way more outta the civc .. vw are trash

Care to elaborate or are you talking out of your butt?

If you are gonna do rallyX why not get an older impreza? They are decently priced and can take some boost. Also a guy on one of my Jeep forums did some rallyX(i believe) in a Jeep comanche.

Get yourself an old dodge 2.5L turbo shadow/sundance. Find the intercooler out of a turbo daytona, swap it in. Build yourself a cheap boost controller from home depot, BLAZE THE TIRES OFF! These cars can handle up to about 14lbs of boost stock. I bought mine for $800, put a clutch in it and was good to go. We dyno'd it, it made 180HP(which isn't overly exciting) but it also made 239ft.lbs of torque which is huge for an $800 car hahaha.
Here is a video of me and a buddy fartin around blazin the tires off. Yes, we did grab 2nd gear in a sundance haha.

I'd rather see the guy driving a Neon ;-)

:lmao: maybe they think you'll have second thoughts and buy something else...

Ha yeah I guess.

Lots of news on the car front.

The water pump, timing belt, hoses, belts, thermostat and harmonic balancer have all been replaced. Along with the stock head lights, upgraded to some 100W bulbs and clear housings.

The harmonic balancer was frozen in place so it had to be cut off.

Also the transmission was opened up a couple days ago to find that it was full of bearing fragments and chunks of metal. So there will be a new transmission going in the car in the next couple days. My mechanic was surprised it worked at all with how much damage was inside.

Also the car has still been throwing all sorts of codes, turns out the ECU unit was replaced at some point and a ECU for a automatic with cruise control was put in its place, so the car was upset that it could not shift it self.

After this (and besides the struts) this car should be running like a new vehicle."thumbsup"

Shat you should have just bought a new car:mrgreen::mrgreen:

I have been starting to think that too. Thank god for junk yards and free labor.

My tab is still pretty damn low, Im still under 1500.00 including tires, lights, all the engine parts and the transmission.

Thank god for easily available parts for Neons.

Turtle I blame you for my recent revival of rally obsession! You bastard! Must resist the urges!

Haha, and to think you sparked my interests when we all went to Wendys for lunch; you told me of you and your friends buying Geo metros and rallying them in the desert. I sold the s-10 after that and have been taking this out.

Turtle, can't wait to see the progress. Out here in California they run FormulaRallyx which is essentially an Autocross setup in a dirt lot, and also a California rally series.

Wish I was in Cali! That looks like a blast, Im actually a little jealous.

The neon is still in the shop waiting for a tranny. Since it had to be replaced anyway I opted for a 3.94 geared one for some low end torque, so its taking a little longer to track down.
My Mechanic is going to take a look at one this afternoon and decided if its any good.
Also tracked down a ECU, after these two items I will be able to take her for a test drive.
Then hook up the lights and pull the dash for a little maintenance.
Im still trying to figure out how I can afford struts, she needs them bad, Ill get it figured out and she will be doing pretty good for her first event at the end of march."thumbsup"

I'll try to snap some photos at the shop of were she is at tomorrow.

Ah yes. $250 Geo Metro rally cars.....those were the days. Glad I could help you out Andrew haha! I'm building a GC Impreza as we speak.

They're more abundant by you. They are like rare unicorns around here. I had to go to St. Louis for this one. Lemme know if you want help finding one. I know all the right places to look haha.
