Class "Three" Err I mean Two Tundra by VMGontheRocks

Re: Class Three Tundra by VMGontheRocks

Looks good. Hope to see it in person some day.

Mind sharing the p/n of that case?

Re: Class Three Tundra by VMGontheRocks

Starting the prep work:

All ready to take to the paint booth:

Laid down some primer:

After two light coats of Krylon fusion satin. I'm using this as a base layer.

Sprayed some paint samples:

From left to right:

Then I decided to take the Rustoleum Sienna mist and top coat it over the orange Krylon Fusion:

I think that's what I will go with.

For the bed I started with this paint:

I'm basically using it as an adhesion promotor.

Then I used this primer to help hide any imperfections:

Then bed liner:

Part of the bed liner started to wrinkled, I wiped it off and it took off all the layers of paint. I'm thinking I either didn't wait long enough or one of the paints didn't agree with the other. I think in the future I would do a few coats of the fusion, wait 7 days and then hit it with the bed liner.

For the brass I used this primer:

And top coated with this:

Re: Class Three Tundra by VMGontheRocks

Never gonna work!! Lol. I like color on the far right

Might not, electronic issues are killing me. Yeah that color is pretty cool, just a little too coppery for what I wanted.

Them are some pretty seats you got there boy!!! Haha

Thanks Wil!

More painting. Cabs after a few coats. I started with pretty light coats and then after a few coats started spraying it on a little thicker. I'm waiting about 30 minutes between coats and doing all painting within a 24 hour window.

Beds after a few coats:

All the painted brass work and some Toyzuki 4-link mounts:

I'm going to add another coat to everything but the front bumpers and toyzuki parts.

Inbetween coats I got sick of styrene work (interior) so I narrowed a boss claw!:

Still having electrical issues. I'll yank the ESC out this weekend and swap it with a FXR in another truck. Hopefully that will solve the issue.

Re: Class Three Tundra by VMGontheRocks

I hope too........ I need to jump in your carry on eh
will find out today!

haha, be like that 10 year old who snuck on the plane a few weeks ago? :lmao::lmao:

Cabs back home from the paint booth:

Bed back from the paint booth:

I think I may have sprayed the bed a bit heavy with the Rustoleum top coat (or I didn't spray the cabs and the other bed enough. who knows)

Doing something with axles here:

Not exactly sure what.

Re: Class Three Tundra by VMGontheRocks

What electrical issue are you have?

The FXR doesn't provide constant power to the RX and only arms about half the time. I think there is a short inside the FXR case on the servo wire. I can push the wire and get the ESC to arm and turn on the RX. I'm just going to desolder the current FXR and put in the FXR that currently resides in my sporty.

You have opened the case to see if that the problem?

Yes, I put shrink wrap on each individual wire. Thinking that would fix it and that was not the case. I'll pop off the case again and take a second glance to see if there was something I missed.

Re: Class Three Tundra by VMGontheRocks

I swapped FXRs and issue is resolved!

After further inspection the servo wires on the bad FXR were coming off at the board and shorting itself. I wasn't able to see this when I popped the case due to the way I soldered my battery leads on which prevented me from fully popping the case off.

Funny thing is the FXR in my sporty had a broken cap, which I probably wouldn't have noticed if I didn't pull it.

Soldering connectors on packs:

Why my FXR wasn't working:

Ended up pulling off the RX cable.

Battery swicth indicators installed:

Weather looks nice:

Interior cut out:

Seat mounts assembled:

Re: Class Three Tundra by VMGontheRocks

Interior halfway finished and shoe horned in:

Need a better mounting system than tape. Any quick and easy ideas?

Re: Class Three Tundra by VMGontheRocks

Velcro or magnets.

I like the magnet idea! The ones I have should hold the interior okay since it only weighs about an ounce.

I'm not sure the velco would work as there really isn't anything to attach it to on the body.

Great build. I'm learning some stuff here, thanks. What's that thing on the battery?

Thanks!! Glad to hear it!

It's a little battery indicator switch. It flips between green and red. I use them to keep track of if the battery is charged or not. Makes life easy when you have 8 of the same battery in a lipo sack.
