Nice rig Devlin! Ecoli is crazy about the Coleworx rigs, and he does a god job on them. I wouldn't wanna build one of them way too many curves.

How strong is the brass compared to steel?

Yes he is and he is good at it.I am like you,I can build tube all day, just not those sexy curves.Like Chris said,once triangulated it is quite strong.Anawrecksya was all brass tube as was the Thing from 2010 MSD nats

The brass was interesting to work with. Extremely easy to bend, cut and file compared to steel, but also easy to collapse the tubing. I'm still sweeping up salt from the workroom floor ! It defiinitely took a gentler touch as well, unlike steel where you can make little tweaks using brute force. As Devlin said though, incredibly light. I'd say about 1/4 or less of the weight of a steel tuber. And while weaker, once it's all braced up, the strength is there. Triangulation is key!

Devlin, are you still looking to get it heat hardened?

Yes, I am going to have it heat treated(hardened just sounds wrong :shock There is a real good chance this will end up with a brushless motor mated directly to a divorced gear reduction transfercase with no other reduction.Should be able to hit 20plus MPH...No sence in taking a chance of crumpling it in a high speed triple gainer:mrgreen:

the cage work on this is just plain cool. had the same thought as you some time back to build the tube work, but it didn't turn out as good as yours. used a 1/16th revo for running gear had fun with it for alittle bit and used the parts for something different. really like the cage work alot can't wait to see more.

Liking much the idea of a very scale yet extremely lite chassis. Must be quite a stunner with all those flawless curves. "thumbsup"

Yes, just unfamiliar with the properties of brass. After wasting about 10 feet of tubing practising with it, I got the hang of it though. Still haven't tried the flux paste you sent, one day!

A little update

I threw some spare axles under it for mock-up

Some new goodies showed up,not sure if I will use them or what ones I will use. The larger shaft shocks are really heavy(black ones),surprised me...

Time to see if I am close to the target weight...This is with 1lb of lead in the wheels, I should be under 6 lbs when she is wet and ready to ride:mrgreen:

Time to go work on the C1 rig now.

I dont think the master of coleworx replicas will ever duplicate this rig in brass again.There are a couple other moonrover builds around but nothing comercially available if that is what you are asking.

Any updates on this one? I have building some crazy chassis like these for the last few months. Curious to see how the finished product turned out....
