Crawler Innovations Block Comp Tire

Push em around and watch flip around each other.

I KNOW...they could be a great conversation piece...just save em up and drop a big pile of them on the coffee table. With that big of a pile they might not ever stop moving

has anybody ever tried these tires in a white dot?

maybe eddie can chime in on this?

I have a pair of red dots that feel really good, but finding another set has been impossible.
i just built a set of khaos rovers, but they don't feel like they would have as much forward bite as the blocks.

I see that I can buy pink and white dots, but if the pink works anything like the pink rovers:roll: I won't be trying them.

I have never seen anybody talk about using the white dots!
but a white dot rover or sedona is definately the tire of choice in our terrain!

thoughts???

I spent some time talking to Eddie about the pink dots and his description of them was that if you practice a couple times a week and comp twice a month or something similar then a set of pinks probably won't last you more than 3-4 months. The reds seem to be his tire of choice for both performance and longevity (value). I am currently building a set of 4 for a buddy that only practices a time or two a month and comps once a month so these should last him at least a year. They ARE much softer to the touch than the reds. The lugs still seem to have a lot more strength than the BC's or Khaos tires.

The whites were described as a good "practice" tire. What I mean by that is that if you aren't that serious about comps, but want a good tire that is going to last a good long while and have all of the benefits of the Blocks then they might be a good choice for you.

With all of that said...I haven't run any of the pinks yet, but as soon as my rover sidewall donors show up I'll let you know what I think. My plan for them is to run my reds all the way around for practice and then throw a pair of the pinks on the front for comp use for that "little bit extra" effect. "thumbsup"

I'm tempted to pick up anset of pink and whites just to try them.

Pink compound rovers are absolutely Terrible out here, and nobody has yet to get a pin tire to outperform a rover or Sedona. But all that's been tried is BC's!

The khaos didn't work for one guy, but just on the rear of mine felt really good.

My theory is that the traction is so high out here that the pinks lug integrity fails and they just slip. Red seemed to work ok, but I am really curious to see if a white might work better for extremely high traction areas.

Does anybody knows, the messures of the Buggy Version of the Block tires and the Truggy Version??

I was hoping for this question to be answered too.

If these are the truggy version what is the measurement, because it looks like no expanding is needed as i see no seams at all in the sidewall.

Thanks in adavance"thumbsup"

It is a truggy tire. There is no cutting needed on the tire. Just the rover sidewall needs to be cut.

I dont have measurement though

My theory is that the traction is so high out here that the pinks lug integrity fails and they just slip.

That is what I found. My first set of blocks were a pair of pinks and a pair of reds. I ran the pinks a few times and didn't like the lugs. They folded like a lawn chair. Also, with the pinks, they are so soft that sometimes the lugs have a flaw out of the mold. They have what looks to be cuts on the inside of some lugs but it's actually where the two surfaces didn't bond. My pinks are like that.
I got a set of reds for up front and haven't looked back. The whites can definitly be ran out back. I have not tested whites up fron on Khaos or Blocks. Eddie has. I really need to get a pair or two of whites but haven't had much free time.

The lugs still seem to have a lot more strength than the BC's or Khaos tires.

That is why the testing started with blocks. To see if they were better than the Khaos.

I have a set of Pink Blocks if Chaotic Crawlers or ittybitty want to try em. PM me. They do have the lug mold defect. Not a huge deal.

Just got my pinks in the mail from rpp and wow they are soft its my first time feeling the hb pink compound and so far I'm not impressed hopefully when I get off work ill wash them and see how they feel after that. Might just send them with my truggy

Trust me, once you clean them the compound will show its true colors.
My red khaos tires are so sticky once they are clean. Even dirt on the tires dosent seem to hold them down."thumbsup"

The ones that have tried the pinks did you try them uncut first or just cut them? I still have to glue the sidewalls in but to me they feel good uncut and feel like they would be too soft if you cut them. The lugs have a backstop if they are not cut to help stiffen them

Test 'em out uncut. Couldn't hurt.
I cut mine first then ran em. Even though the lugs were a little more spaced than the Khaos, I still felt they needed to be cut to open them up.

Just feeling the lugs before I cut them, they still would fold over alot. I am saving mine for this winter. Even so, the pink is super soft and shows wear even after a few packs. They are definitley a comp tire only. I wouldn't practice too much with em. Just my thoughts.

Yeah I will try them uncut first just wonderedif my initial thoughts were worth a damn lol

I ran my red blocks for the first time today.

I had blocks in front and khaos in the rear.
at first my rig felt unstoppable!!!
but as the day went on and the temps got really hot, i noticed a decrease in performance.
It seems like the compound breaks down and the tire doesn't have the traction as it does when its cold.
i tried a few foam changes, but found my initial foam combo to be the best.

I will say that I liked the blocks more than the khaos tires!
they seemed to work alot harder and were more consistent than the khaos was.

I picked up a set of white dot blocks from eddie @ crawler innovations this week, so I am excited to try this compound once they get here.
I think the white dots will work very well in my terrain!"thumbsup"

well i decided on doing things right and ordered some glue to do my sidewalls so the pinks will have to wait i hate living in a small town just because everything has to be ordered in.
im interested in hearing how the whites do

Make sure you buy tire glue and not just regular CA.

I did my first set with blue "jet" CA and had to learn the hard way. It looks like ass!
I then bought some tire glue and made my second set, they turned out way nicer!

yeah i ordered some from eddie, tried some other glues on the scrap tires i cut the sidewalls off and decided really fast to order the real deal "thumbsup"

we had a comp yesterday.
I built the tires friday, and ran them untested on saturday.

I had my red blocks up front amd whites in back.

here is my setup:
front
1" vp slw v2
red blocks (cut)
c.i. medium 2" inner
c.i. soft 2" outer
c.i. medium outer tuning ring
3oz. of wheel weight
4oz. of knuckle weight

rear
1" vp slw v2
white blocks (cut)
c.i. medium 2" inner
c.i. medium 2" outer
1oz. of wheel weight per wheel

this combo seemed to work really well at first.
I really liked the traction and smoothness of the setup.

i ran 2 courses in the morning and was the first to finish either. but because i was not used to this type of setup I ended up clipping a gate on each course.
I didn't run for a couple hours after, and the temps were now at their hottest.
gates 1 and 2 on course 3 were very difficult. I noticed immediately that the red compound had broke down in the heat. I could not get through gate 2!
the rears seemed to be working, but the fronts just wouldnt bite down and keep their traction.

I ended up switching to rovers up front after that and was able to kill the last 2 courses.

I went and ran a couple of the hard lines with my white blocks in rear and rovers in the front afterwards.
I think the foams were a little to stiff in the rear tires. they were pretty bouncy when i was fun crawling.

I am trying to find a sweet spot with these pin tires.
I notice that with a rover in front and a pin in the rear, that the rear tires tend to be the dominant tire. they will force the truck to drive straight even though your steering the truck any direction.
when I have a pin tire in front I don't have this problem!

I will try a softer foam setup in my whites and report back.
I will also try the whites in the front.
but I can tell you that my theory that a white block works a lot better in my terrain was correct, simply because it is consistent with the temp changes.
when its cooler the reds work incredible, but they screwed me once it was hot!!!
I didn't notice a huge difference in the two combos when it was cooler.

here is how they are cut.

Thanks for the feedback!

I have only run the red blocks at one comp and it was 102 degrees but we were in the shade and not direct sun. I have a lot of practice with them though. I know Eddie (Nova's Ark, aka Crawler Innovations) is big on the white compounds on all four corners, blocks and Khaos. They seem to be the most consistent in hotter temps. I ran some White Khaos at ECC '10 and really liked them.

I run an inner wheel support ring of sorts up front and that enables me to run a softer foam setup. The bounce is almost zero up front.

My front Red compound blocks are showing some wear after 10-15 packs. But my Red Khaos tires will be a year old next month and are holding up awesome. Go figure.

I am seriously debating buying another set of white blocks to run on all 4.
but I think I will have to post my red blocks and khaos for sale first.
