Now that I have a Yeti, I'm thinking I want to pick something up that a little slower. Wanting something I can play around in the mud and on rocks. Not competing, just bouncing around. Been thinking a used Wraith is the way to go but wanted to check see what other (better) options might be out there. Because this is going to see mud and water, not wanting to spend a bunch of money building it up. I've already thought about using some of the Traxxas electronics that are thrown away on Ebay for cheap. More interested in the better platform to go with.

Brushless or not? Would it mainly be mudding or mainly be crawling? I had converted my SCX10 Deadbolt to a mud truck with just essentially an RC Bro lift-kit and some 2.2 Mudslingers, along with a Castle Sct/3800kv system that I used from another vehicle. I used my SCX10 because I don't like tearing down the Wraith as much, plus it's easier to transport the Deadbolt for myself. I also went brushless because it could crawl OK but I mainly needed the wheelspeed for mudding.

Trying to mud with the stock 27T brushed motor killed it within 2 runs, and the 1.9 Treps weren't even comparable to the Mud Slingers, which still do rocks pretty well. Either way, playing in the mud/water for long ends up costing a lot of time in maintenance and drying the thing off all the time as well. It was fun though:

EDIT: I also could mention the 2nd benefit of the SCX10 is removing the lift-kit and 2.2s and converting it back to a scale trail truck.

Im going to guess that it'll probably spend more time on the rocks than in the mud. I'm sure I'll get tired of tearing it down after every mud run and/or replacing parts. From my limited knowledge, brushed seems to be a little easier to deal with in the mud/water. However, if I end up spending more time in the rocks, I love how much smoother the brushless (sensored) is

Maybe my issue is trying to have a dual purpose rig that requires 2 totally different setups.

As much as I like my wraith, I am in the process of switching to an scx10, I like the looks and performance of it, but I soon learned to avoid mud like the plague. The way the interior is it acts like a funnel straight to the motor/trans area. Maintaining it was a chore because the are kind of a pain to take apart to get into all the little nooks and cranies. After I was confident with my waterproofing I started hosing it down in the shower which worked well for the bulk of it, but I like to keep it clean so it was pretty much a full teardown everytime.

You aren't going to want slower for the mud, you will want a torquey motor that will spin the tires fast enough to cut through and clear out the mud. It sounds like we have similar uses in mind and the best thing I did was the ax2 2 speed. It works great for crawling but really gets the tires going in the mud and snow, but again, not a cheap mod and not a good thing to mix with a cheap motor as I found out.

Here's an example of what I did with mine. I have my other video showing it going submarine in the creek too lol, but this bog was such a PITA to clean up after. It left little hair-like roots on every spinning shaft possible. https://youtu.be/7Kqy1-i5K3k?t=4m10s

Like the above post, I also avoid mud/water with my Wraith unless I absolutely have to. I'll get the tires wet and blast through it a couple times but nothing past a third of the tire any more. Not really super expensive, but definitely time consuming.

I've been watching ebay for a good Wraith because I like the scale interior but seems like the scx10 platform might be a better option. I love the 2-speed in my yeti so I'm not opposed to running one.

I don't disagree about the more scale appearance of the wraith interior. I have plans to try and make one fit and order the parts individual or steal them from my current wraith but I'm waiting on my trailranger body for that project to begin.
