I have had the rig built for a while, but didn't want to post till I had a chance to get a few bugs worked out, and had some action shots also...

so, whaddya think??

on to the action shots...

Ok...before i get flamed to bad..I still need to sleeve the steering, and the Stinger is no longer in the tranny. I have a Lathe on the way, but for the time being, I am running a 550 can 11000 rpm motor out of a 6.0v Ryobi drill. The spec four cell pack in the workbench photo was for indoor testing, I use 6 cells on the rocks.

Rims are Traxxas Sledgehammer, modified to fit. Nice thing is the "drive hex" is even with the inside edge of the rim, so you get a good wide stance without having to buy and wideners...

Any questions, just ask.

Nah, no one is going to flame that. It is a nice looking truck, especially considering that you have the coveted FJ40 body on it. That RBX chassis seems to be a real winner and it makes a nice affordable platform to start out on.

Your truck looks great overall. I personally am not a huge fan of chrome rims, but this is hardly a flaw with your truck. A commendable job!

Aggred.... nice truck

wow looks sweet! i have the same set up (fj-40 body and mount how weird!)
just a question does your tires hit your body at full flex i had butcher my hole back, if not how did you limit your travel? thanx ka'aina

that so sweet !!!!!!

The FJ body was originally on my T-maxx....I wish I had never done that, since I have so many holes in it, and you cant get them anymore. I might try to patch those up.

I usually HATE chrome wheels, but they kinda look good on this thing...however I would never run them on my 1:1!

As far as flex and hitting the body, yea, they rub a little, and I did cut the back of the body some....you can see it well in the action pics if you click on them. I dont want to cut any more off of it, though, since the tires aren't getting hung up in the body, just rubbing. I didnt limit the travel at all.....and I hope I dont have to!

Thanks for the kind words, guys!!

Nice tlt, just finished my RBX buildup as well.

For looks and function you should consider lowering the body about 1-1.5".

Could you post some close-ups of your upper link setup? What are you using for your upper link mounting plate over the servos? Where are your upper links mounted on the chassis?

I've got a few tips for ya. Cut off all the plastic around the motor, it's not needed. Try and lower the body some you'll be suprised how much more stable it will be. That's why my body is all cut to ****. I wanted it as low as possible.

For anyone who wants to limit travel on their shocks. Slide some fuel line over the shock shaft. It'll make a nice cushy bumpstop.

Thats a good idea, I kinda need to do that.

Nice looking FJ, seems to work well.

Nice rims. So what exactly did you modify about the rims to get them to fit?

did you notch out the skid to fit the trans?

Yes, I did...not much, didnt affect the strength that I could tell.

RCKjeep, thanks fer the tips...when the lathe motor gets here and I pull the tranny again, I will trim it. I guess thats when i will look at lowering the body as well.

Gimbal: not much, really...if you have ever seen Sledgehammer rims, then you know Traxxas used a drive hub that was "keyed" to the rim. The rim has 5 posts on it that line up with slots on the drive hub. The hub has a hex on the back to mate to the drive hex we all know so well.

I didnt have any of the drive hubs handy, so I trimmed the center of the rim down till I had threads showing thru the rim (the stock sledgehammer axles must have been REALLY long..), then I slotted the center to accept the drive pin. After that, I sleeved the center with 7/16 x .035 AL tubing from K&S. It took some careful sanding and material removal to get all the rims the same, but it works well, so far. I am a little worried about what will happen if you bind a tire and dont pay attention...seems like you could "strip" the center of the wheel where your drive pin goes pretty easy.

I am going to look into using the Traxxas drive hubs with these rims, as it seems like it might be more sturdy.

Bugman....check Randy's website for the upper link mounts. He offers two kinds, one for servo's, and one without. On the chassis, they are mounted at the same height as, but slightly behind the upper shock mounts.

I hope that got everybodies' questions. If not...more answers will follow..

Tim
