Ditch those cantilevers

Losi 4" shocks bolt right on as you'll see in various threads with pictures around here. You will have to bodge something though to use the Losi lower ball as it has an imperial size hole marginally smaller than the 3mm bolt.

enough material around it to drill it out a little wider?

Need to check for UK stock, or import and replace later - they seem relatively separate to get to from a replacement point of view - don't need to dismantle half the chassis to get at, so could wait until after I build.

Yeah, sure, but how do you intend to keep the ball from rotating while you drill it (short of clamping it in a vice which would probably damage it)?

Besides the ball is made from steel harder than the drill bit so how do you propose to drill it? I tried to file the hole round to a larger diameter and the file just slid through with no result at all whatsoever no matter how hard I tried and left no marks at all on the ball after a few minutes of trying.

Trust me, it's so easy to sand the screw it's just not worth pursuing other avenues. You only need to take a tiny fraction of material off the screw, two minutes worth of work on both sides.

Or just go ahead and have fun trying to drill the ball! And if you succeed I am very interested to know how.
