DLUX super build

I finally got some time to get out and drive this car.

The change in rear scrub is pretty weird. Definitely more powerful steering. I was actually worried about the quirkiness of the scrub going away since I like it. It seems to have less quirks but enough that I can still drive it the way I want. I will have to drive it more before I can comment on it some more.

The tiny rear hubs will have to be made out of 7075 as I was worried they would need to be. There is just not enough material to hold on to the axle stub. It is already wallowing out and getting sloppy.

I also need to make a couple other changes with the suspension and just in general.

Oh, driving upside down is ridiculous.

I decided to drive it with no added weight. I was not really expecting it to do great, I just wanted to see how it felt. It actually felt great and I think I made more obstacles at this location then I ever have! I will be putting the weight back on though. I think the best thing about taking weight off is that it really brings out the flaws in your car. Then you can make adjustments, put the weight back on and be even better off!

Wowza...it looks great Eric. I definitley like the new chassis much more than the last. Looking fprward to seeing it in person at some poimt or at least in a video.

Dunno man. I have always been impressed with the capability of your super. I just cant figure out why it seems to have that magic touch. I would like to go out fun crawling with them again and see how mine stacks up compared to yours these days.

I think the answer is more in my head than on the tip of my tounge. Also, I will need to drive the car a lot more before I can tell if I actually like no scrub in the rear.

I like the large amount of scrub I have in the front for the extra reach when turning. I also really like the effects of the NON 8* and more scrub seems to amplify that.

As for the rear, at first I didnt like the scrub. It seemed really quirky because of the NON 8* stuff. When on a side hill you can be forced to turn either up or down hill and if youre turning down hill, this can make you roll over by simply using your steering. The more I drive and understand my super, the more I have learned to like the NON 8* in the rear and use the quirks to an advantage just like the front. Thats what I meant by this statement above...

To give an example of why I like the quirks in the rear, if youre doing a really steep/long climb and searching for traction with the front, you can wiggle the rear a little bit and it will cause more pressure on the opposing front tire. I expect this advantage will be less now with less scrub but more in moderation where as I can now turn down hill on that side hill and not roll. Give and take...

There are other advantages to the NON 8* that I really like too. Like I said above, I have only run about 4 pack through so far so I have a lot to learn about the changes. I could see myself going back to lots of scrub, keeping it the same or even going to a 8* setup just in the rear. I think the changes I just made will give me a good idea of where I want to go next and if I am lucky, this will be the happy medium and I wont want to change.

I got some AL rear hubs done up and I am glad I did. These things are SOLID with no slop.

Since I cut off most of the stub shaft I captured the pin a bit different on these than my typical hubs.

On a similar note,... I now have the Delrin Bully style hubs for sale and consistently stocked. I am now having them CNC'd so the price is much better. The Delrin hubs save about 1/2oz per axle over the typical aluminum hex/VP hub.

Took the ol girl out for some driving this weekend. Wendover is super country! I love driving my super there. It still needs some tweaking but I was able to make some adjustments and get it feeling much better. I had a bad weekend as far as servos though... 2 servos down! Bummer.

I am trying my hand at some videos with a better camera. I still have a lot of learning to do all around but I will post up a couple that I got from this weekend.

Here is the 1st.

This footage is just me trail running. I have never driven this spot or done the obstacles. I just drove and found stuff to drive so you get to see me figure some stuff out and struggle a bit.

LOVE IT Erik! Looks like a little more front weight will go a long way for that rig. Seems like you spending a lot of time settling the front down (granted, it's hard to get a grasp of just how steep those climbs are ;-) )

Yeah, there is a TON of room for improvement and lots of tuning that needs to be done. Its amazing how a change like putting new axles and new chassis can change the whole ballgame. LOL.

There is more lifting that I would like. I am still running 30wt (winter) shock oil which is killing me and the suspension in general needs tuning but, I think most of what you can see is me fighting the front servo. If you look in that side hill video what I am doing is just trying to move my front wheels just enough to get my steering to work again. The high degree of turning is irreplaceable but once I get past 45* or so, it really likes to lock it in that direction and its hard to over come. We will see when I put a fresh servo in how I like it but right now I am thinking that the front needs to go the way of the rear, zero scrub. I still get plenty of quirks out of the rear so I am hoping the front would be the same. I would hope that I can still get my reach out of the front too but who knows? If not, I will come back to this setup but I either need a bigger servo or duals in the front to overcome that steering.

Oh, I am running 8oz per side of added weight so I think thats enough? I was thinking of adding more just because I dont think it would hurt. I like as much weight as I can fit on my 2.2 so I was thinking of doing the same on the super. Thats a little ways down the road though.

Man I really wanna go back and crawl at that spot.
I'm only running 6oz of weight per side and haven't changed that at all. I'm also running 120wt oil in the shocks all the way around. Hows your gc look at the front of the skid? And how long are your rear links?

I will take the weekend off and meet you out there :D

Skid is flat,.... 4.5" extended and 3.125" compressed.

Rear links are approx 9" long

About .25 short on wheel base too...
