DLUX super build

I will take the weekend off and meet you out there :D

Skid is flat,.... 4.5" extended and 3.125" compressed.

Rear links are approx 9" long

About .25 short on wheel base too...

Wowza. I just measured my links in the rear last night. I'm prob just a touch under 8" for the rear lowers and I'm right at 18" wheelbase.
Anyways see you this weekend. "thumbsup"

Thanks man!

I made a couple of changes before I left not knowing how they would work out but they ended up being just what I needed.

Ever since I started to get more steering, I had to move the shocks and links way inwards. I had this same setup on my Bergs and when I built the Bergs, I was expecting some issues from the shocks being so inbound. I never had an issue and the car worked like a dream. When I built this cars axles (I think I know why) the shocks were an issue. I was getting a lot of tire lift so I ended up moving the shocks outwards some, changing to a heavier oil and it was good to go. I have the link geo pretty close to where it was before and I may need to adjust it some but I am very in the ballpark.

Performance wise, this car is already doing really well. Drivability is about a 3/10 though. I have some changes coming up to make it much easier to drive.

As said above, this car is horrible to drive right now. One of, if not the biggest problem is the motors. I need to send them in to EddieO to see if I messed something up while turning the can down, I think there is something wrong with them as there is a serious lack of power. Even if I put them together wrong, I am regretting lathing the cans for this car. Drag brake went down as expected and I cannot control the car as startup on the motors is fast and strong. I tried to adjust my ESC throttle curve but then that just messed me up in a whole different direction.

EddieO to the rescue! He sent me some new crazy proto magnets that should really help with torque and drag brake. He also sent me a bunch of arms to test to see if I can get these motors back on track. Thanks Brood!

Eddie told me these magnets were strong. Usually when people start ranting about how strong or cool their products are I just turn my hearing on to Charlie Brown mode.... "wah, wah wah, wah wah wah wah..." Eddie was not joking about these magnets! I tried to put one of the arms in and I could not get the shims to stay on the pinion side! The magnets would just keep pulling it off and if I did not line the arm up just right, it was hard to pull it back up and get it aligned. At first I tried to pull the end bell off and I thought I was going to break it. I had to pull the end bell off and then grab the timing ring. The timing ring was pulled against the magnets so hard that I thought the end bell was stuck on!

I dont know if you can tell how far away the motors are in this vid but they are a decent distance. Crazy! I cant wait to test these!

It does not roll down the fridge but it slides. I think my fridge has too much coating on it. If I stick it to my toaster oven I can stick it sideways no problem.

Maybe this counts too?

Oh, they will pass every other test pretty much too.....well except the lightweight test. Startup isn't as good as other motors though its still pretty good, but drag brake, torque, and stall ability is nuts.....by 2.2p with Tekin FXRs can sit basically straight down on a rock and will not roll.....it will slide down the hill before it rolls. It's a pig too, at nearly 6 lbs.

Later EddieO

Great looking build! Love all the parts you come up too! Couple questions, what batteries are you running and what kind of run time do you get? Thanks Ty.

I am running the sky lipo 800mah, 40c on 3s. I havent timed them but they are close to the same run time as my 2.2 on a 450mah. I am tempted to try 4s on this thing but not sure I want to get rid of the micro sidewinders just yet.

I'm running the Sky 4S 800's on my Super...love em 8)

My two biggest problems with this car have been lack of torque and lack of steering power.

After doing the rear axle wider and getting rid of the scrub, it was obvious that the less scrub was better. More steering power and it still drives like a non 8* truck, just more predictable and easier to drive. So, it was obvious that I needed longer tubes for the front to do the same.

Here you can see the width differences. .6 per side or a total of 1.2" overall wider than my previous setup.

Here are the hub differences.

New tubes also meant new axle shafts, tie rod and drag link. The tie rod is over 10" long

I was also able to put the shafts in the lathe and take the ends off since it was not an afterthought like last time

Shot of the new shafts :

Overall width is close to 12.75

I have never been too worried about the Delrin tubes. They have proven themselves over and over to me. At these lengths and as much fat as I have taken out of the super lite axles, its starting to push it. There is some flex in the tubes but after driving it, it does not seem to hurt.

I finally talked myself into doing some glue on wheels for this car. I hope I dont regret it. I figured that I never change tires on this car and never change foams. Also, the beadlocks are decently heavy and that weight is not like a 2.2, its pretty up there. Another huge thing that changed my mind is the G10 material. I have about $15 into material on cutting the back rings where as I was looking at $140 in material for CF to switch to a back ring. I just could not swallow that.

I ended up losing a decent amount of weight between the beadlocks, shorter screws, narrower wheel and shaving the rest of the Trencher sidewall.

I also flipped the faces for that brand new look.

After getting all of that done, I took it out and tested it out.

Steering is much better, maybe close to the same as before I got all the steering. Its workable now but still not where I want to be. Plan B is already in effect and it will be sick if it works out.

I put Broods motors in with those silly magnets. These things are so over the top for a super its crazy! I have never felt this much torque or drag brake (may have to turn it down even) and the startup is super smooth. I wish I would have known about these motors when I very first got some for my super. Any car that needs crazy torque should have them. I think I could have even run my LCC on one  I wont be going back to a standard magnet in this car, thats for sure. I will post a video in a second. In the middle of the vid, I am at a super steep climb and I get almost to the top and I show a shot where I am not holding the throttle and you can see the drag brake work.

Overall I am very happy with this car now. As soon as I get some steering power it will be everything I have ever wanted.
