Do any of you know what a truggy is?

Basicly an open wheeled trophy truck

thaclodking is the only one that's gotten this right - the term "truggy" was derived from the class that he posted the pic of. I'm somewhat of a 1:1 wheeler, I call the tubers rock buggies. If they've still got most of their stock sheet metal, they're still the vehicle they started out as. A truck with no bed with a bobbed frame and an exo cage I call - a truck with no bed, bobbed frame, and an exo cage.

in 1:1 truggys were made to do desert racing, its like the better parts of a trophy truck and buggy mixed together...Im pretty sure.........Right?

Bingo!

Trail rigs with parts of the original frame cut away and replaced with toob are..... well, trail rigs, IMO.

htats what i thaught there are no rockcrawler truggies, buggies would be horrible for rock crawling(2wd,ifs,irs) so there wouldnt really be a reason to use any buggy ideas on a rock crawler

I get the feeling RCKJeep might be building a tuber truggy similar to the one spoken about in one of the earlier 1/6 Ranger threads. It's probably an adaptation of the work he did making a tube bed for Badger. I think he's sitting on a pile of something cool and waiting for the opportune moment to show us

TRUck / buGGY. Part truck, part buggy. It the 1:1 world it is generally meaning front half resembling the origional donor truck, the back half tubed like a buggy.

this is a great response. A Truggy is all of the above. But I'm looking for a specific definition. I'll give you all some clues. What site are we on? So would I be talking about desert racing? Don't get me wrong those baja machines are freakin awesome. I mean a trophy truck for example. 800 ponies, and 30" of suspension travel. How Fawkin cool is that? But anyway back to the topic at hand.

well it might not be the most capable of rc rigs but they look cooler than sh!t.

Radishkid you may be on to something

You say you want a "specific definition", but there have been many answers that could be considered acceptable definitions for a "truggy". It all depends on what context the word is used in. I mean, does someone get a prize for giving you the specific answer you want? :flipoff:

But seriously, is that your rig you are building? If so, keep the pics coming, it looks pretty sweet. I have working on a plan for something similar, but I am not sure if I will ever get around to it.

Truggy::roll: A stupid little word or phrase that the magazine companies came up with, that might sound trendy, and catch peoples attention at the magazine stands. I've heard the word used so many different times in the last 6 months, and for so many different types of vehicles, that there is no way there could be a clear definition for the word. I really hate the word. Example: I was talking to a guy about 1:1 crawling about a month ago when I asked him "What type of rig do you have?" His response was "Oh, I have a truggy." Not only did he not answer my question, but after that I started to think of the guy as an idiot. Did he not know what he was driving? Maybe he didn't build it? Come to find out, he owned a Toyota with front and rear tube bumpers he bought off e-bay, and some nerf bars he purchased out of a magazine. He had removed the standard bed and his buddy built a bed onto the stock frame, but left the rear tube bumper. He considered it to be a truggy. Truggy, it doesn't really tell someone anything about the vehicle. And to be fair, I don't like it when someone says they have a rock buggy, once again, doesn't tell you anything about the rig. Instead you could say "I have a 2.5L 4 cyl. motor with auto, 4 to 1 Klune-V, Flipped Dana 300, in a tube chassis, with a HP 60 front, 14 bolt rear, on 42's." Now that lets someone know what you drive, and at least makes it appear that you know something about your rig. But hey, just my $.02.

this hits it on the head. Cut the body off a truck or tube frame it, its not a truggy, its a truck or a rock buggy. Like he said, if you back half your truck and take the bed off, then you have a truck thats been back halfed with no bed.

there is no rock crawling truggy, a truggy will have independant suspension and be 2wd according to the race class specs that the truggys run
the white knight, thing all i saw there was a big blazer that would be cool but is definately NOT a truggy

A truggy is a truck chassis(based upon a Trophy Truck design - two wheel drive, two passengers, tubular 4130 chrome-moly frame, engine in front, three speed automatic transmission, independent front suspension, solid axle rear suspension, and coil-over shock absorbers) but is so bad azz it can be raced in Class 1 Unlimited, which is typically dominated by the more traditional unlimited buggy. Thats where TRUGGY originated. Team Terrible Herbst Really made the first competitive Truggy. This thing is dominating. All other definitions for truggy are not correct. Only applies to dessert racing. The closest thing to truggy is a DUAL SPORT rig which is what the last pic is of. Something that can be blasted through the hard pack desert and run the sand dunes too. Definitely DOES NOT apply to crawling. Next time someone says they have a truggy, you can smack them if they don't have an extra $400,000 in it. 8o):flipoff:

rckjeep this is the type of truggy I'm reffering to

what part of this is a truck. I see nothing that looks like a truck. And you can't say the solid rear axle because solid rear axles came in a lot of cars too.

YOu guys are not getting it. Well Radishkid did. I can ask for a specific definition. This is a ROCK CRAWLING SITE you muppets!!!!

Truggy: (in the rock crawling world) TRuck/bUGGY = TRUGGY. A truggy is a vehicle that has had the back half of the frame cut off and replaced with a tubular structure like a rock BUGGY would have. Truggy's usually have the stock truck suspension up front, usually leafs springs and a linked suspension in the rear.

In my case it'll be linked front and rear. For me the truggy part is the chassis half truck half buggy.

No offense, but I still disagree. Truggy is to rockcrawling as much as the local porn shop is a good place to get disney movies. They might look similar, but are for 2 different purposes. Truggy would make sense if it originated with rock crawling, but it didn't. You asked for a true definition of truggy, not a generalization or an opinion. Tubed rear half on a truck frame is cool with me, it affects me in no way other than if someone says truggy I now have to ask if its a Crawling truggy ar a real truggy. What if I put a truck bed on my dune buggy??? BUCK??? or could that be a truggy also?? Or if we put a truck bed on a forklift??? @uck? ok, that was a stretch... Like i said, no offense. Every1 is entitled to their opinion and that is mine. You can call that a truggy all you want and if you keep it up, it might become mainstream enought that even the true definition will become distorted from its origins. Thats the wonderful thing about the english language. Thats tight, phat, and ronjokshen. Think that word will take off??? It can mean whatever the hell you want. (I'm gunna laugh me azz off if I hear it again in 10 years.) Happy wheeling. :flipoff:  ;-)
