It's for kids. And if you have kids, I get it. I have everything I need, and most if my wants too. I'm very grateful for that. I don't want any presents. If I want something, I go out and buy it. I hate the hype, the crowds, the expectations, the celebration of overspending on crap that's forgotten a week later, the traffic, the whole deal. It has nothing to do with religion, it has all to do with gross consumerism at its lowest level. The only thing i do like about it, is 'A Christmas Story'. Thats it. Call me a Scrooge.

Bah humbug. It's all about the retail sales. I never use to see decorations up before thanksgiving and now displays are up before Halloween. I am excited to see my son enjoy all that is Christmas, but have already been asked to set up the Christmas tree and decorate the house. I refused and said they would have to wait until after thanksgiving.

I like the family part of Christmas, and the kids enjoyment, but I could do without all the crap listed by Greg. The overcommercialization is sickening.

On the other hand, I do like 'A Christmas Story' and the original animated specials like Rudolph and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

What I hate about Christmas is my wife asks me about what I want, then buys nothing remotely close to what I asked for. She isn't happy just giving me $$$ and letting me pick out what I need or want, she wants to buy stuff.

I think she enjoys the shopping more than the giving. :ror:

Right! Buy me a Rolex and a 1969 Road Runner. Other than that, I'm good!

I agree mostly, I don't want anything other than to spend time with my family. I actually like my family and living on the other side of the country doesn't allow me to see them very often. The years I get to go home are a treat. It's not about the shopping, presents, and doesn't have to be about religion if you don't want it to be (even though it is based off a Christian event). It's about being with people you care about and chilling out for a little bit. Today's "gotta have it right now" and "if I want it I'll buy it" has ruined the true meaning of Christmas. Ya I know "Blah blah blah, true meaning of Christmas I hear it every year" but there is some truth to it. You realize it the older you get and if you forget it completely you won't ever enjoy another Christmas ever again.

Christmas is actually a pagan holiday that was taken over by Christianity. It was used as a way to help ease the transition into the church.

But you're right, its about family. I don't really care if I get anything or not. I was just saying that if you (relatively speaking) do spend money, don't buy a bunch of useless crap that'll end up in the trash or in the back of the closet.

I get what everyone is saying about family. But shouldn't we feel that way all the time?

We should, but life doesn't always allow it to happen, especially when everyone is spread out across the country or the world. If nothing else, its a damn good excuse to get everyone under the same roof at the same time to catch up and enjoy being together.

Again, no different for me if it's the 4th of July, 5th of July, or March 3rd.

But than everyone starts hating it again after they don't win anything....

But seriously... Like Duuuuuude said it's a chance for everyone to get together... Kids have break from school lot's of people are on vacation so it's a nice time to get together... For some people it's the only time they see each other every year... And also people shouldn't be worried about what they are getting for Christmas they should be more excited for what they can give for Christmas "thumbsup"
