Never even thought I'd have a problem with this. I have a Toyota Tacoma and last night someone stole the catalytic converter off it.... My alarm went off but it was too late they got it. They just unbolted it.... I went to the parts store and they said its a common thing with toyotas..

I ordered a new one and will be WELDING it on when it arrives... Meanwhile all my friends are coming over to have me lay a few beads on theirs too.

Its a big thing going on here in Utah also and they target the trucks and SUV's as they are easier to get under...sorry to hear they got ya....damn thief's

Awwww sh!t... The crackheads have tools now....

Somehow, I knew this was coming... A friend of mine and I were talking about it like six months ago, how the price of cats was going through the roof (even scrap ones for recycling) and I flat called it...

"Great, now the crackheads are stop stealing wiring from houses and go to jacking catalytic converters."

That's absolutely frightening... I was right!

That little bit of Platinum & Rhodium in those things are worth good money:shock:

My sales guy went to lunch one day at D'angelos. A civic pulled in, a girl came in ordered her grinder, she waited, got her grinder, left and when she started up her car it was loud. Within 10 minutes they yanked her Cat.

Even the after market Cats that use a different metal are worth money. ...

Welding wont help either, they have ratchet cutters. One on each end with a couple of yanks and its off.

If it was a Toyota dont worry about it ... it would have thrown a code eventually anyway and you would be buying a new soon enough. Sucks though this is what life has come down to though.

I have a way to fix it, I don't run a cat:lol:"thumbsup"

People have been stealing them from around here too, only they are just using a saw zaw or similar to cut them off.

I'm not to sure what the hell is happening to this world, someone is always trying to steal something anymore.

So you didn't talk to your insurance company? If not, why not?

We sell cats in small bursts(work at Toyota dealer). Trucks/4Runners/Tacoma's etc are all easy targets. Only need a single socket and about 60 seconds. Plus if you crawl under a stock height rig the cats are within easy reach. We had a tech almost get his stolen while at work and from his stall he can see his truck too.

Welding won't help, especially if they really want to get it. Have a skid plate fabbed that covers the cat to guard against theives.

some cracker stole my exhaust on my corolla. left the cat tho. i guess it was easier to get at.. i could see if i was high id mistake the two..

No didnt waste my time with my insurance, my deductable is 500.00 Kragen sells magna flow cats for 165

I'm going to weld it on and make some kind of skid plate blocking access.

Nothing will stop them completely, just hoping to deter them or slow them down..

Welding won't help around here... Damn thief's just steal cordless saw-zalls first... then go out cutting cats. They need to do something about the recycling yards that are buying them without paperwork. You can tell when a cat is stolen or one someone replaced. If someone is coming in with a few cats at a time, all of them cut out, that should ring a bell... if the thief had no where to sell them he wouldn't be stealing them.

The real crooks would take it off with means that would be quicker than unbolting it either way.

Any time I play with exhaust stuff, I don't even bother if there are clamps installed...............it is getting cut out.

Welding your new cat on would be just like using locks..................all it does is keep honest people honest.

edit: Yep, 4U beat me to it

Our mechanic at the golf coarse I work at had his taken off of his 4 runner. took him all of 20 minutes after getting to work to straight pipe it.

Glad I have a toyo pickup. little harder to get under without jacking up. I still worry about it though:-( I like the skid plate Idea though!

oh yeah, the NAPA auto parts store I next to my hobby shop had all the caddies pulled off their three trucks, and the tires/wheels pulled from the car. same ass holes are probably the ones who through the rock in the hobby shop window the same night. jerks.

Hmmm so where would I go to sell some old cats? There's money in these things? Man I got 3 more to take off then...the replacement up/down pipes aren't expensive either.

The easy one was removed for the much better exhaust.

Test pipe.. They check you pretty often here in Jersey. Looks like a cat, but it's just pipe straight through it.

might be a good idea to throw a sugar cube under you car to hopefully distract the crackheads tryin to steal ur kat.

I work at a dealership, and every once in a while I get to keep a junk converter. The core guy come's every three week's and give's $100.00 for a junk converter. Easy money for me! I guess the mall near me has had a lot of car's cat's ripped off. Gotta watch out for those crack head's.
