Dudley Deadbolt's Adventure Thread by T-money

Some alligator clips on some beefy silicone wire (~14awg) make a great addition to a trail first aid kit.

Love the stories.

Over 100 miles logged on Dudley now!!!

For this outing we hit Lake Marry. This is one of my favorite trails because it's pretty close to home, it takes you to a beautiful lake high in the mountains out of the heat and a stock rig can make the whole trail unassisted but there are a ton of very challenging obstacles just off the side of the trail especially up near the lake.

So, like I first posted Dudley has now logged over 100 miles. We made the trail without any trail repairs and performed great. But....... Just as we arrived to the Lake I was attempting a tough ledge and started to hear some popping. I knew exactly what it was, the front ring gear had finally let go. Now if you follow this thread you'll know that Dudley has been running with a giant hole in the front housing for about 30 miles with the ring gear exposed to all the dirt, mud, sand etc. with no maintenance what so ever, so this was no surprise. On a good note Dudley made the trip back down without having to be repaired. Made a bunch of racket with the gears popping but drove the whole way.

I'm going to be doing some repairs on the front axle, I'll need to replace the housing, ring and pinion, along with a few bearings (probably all of the bearings, as I have not replaced a single one yet  )

Dudley logged 2.5 miles on this trip.

Map of the ski runs in the parking lot.

Getting in some technical crawling early on

Making our way up into the trees

A little water crossing just to the side of the trail

About half way the trail starts to get fun (the first half is mostly just dirt unless you deviate off the trail a bit)

Some friends doing work on trail

A little water fall just past the half way point

Back to more obstacles on trail

The second water crossing. The water crossings can be avoided if you stay on the trail (but whats the fun in that)

Quick stop for some hydration and to enjoy our surroundings

Just below the damn the trail splits both take you to Lake Marry. The left fork beyond Lake Marry heads to Catherine Lake, while the right fork beyond Lake Marry heads to Twin Lake. Either way is equally as fun. This time we took the right fork.

A good lookout just after the fork in the trail.

Back on the trail. The trail just gets better and better the closer you get to the lake

Another good lookout about 100 yards from the lake

One last section before you arrive at Lake Marry

We made it!!
Such a beautiful place. Makes for a great reward after a good trail run.

Great thread, I just picked up a Deadbolt the other day. I am going to change out a few items, diff gears, drive shafts, and motor and just run the snot out of it. Maybe put in a different receiver and use my Sprektum, but out of the box it worked pretty good on a few small rocks piles I found. Great platform as usual from Axial."thumbsup"

Read this in one setting realy enjoyed the detailed write up. I am new to crawling and would be quick to buy and add hopups without such great information as provided by this thread.
I will now enjoy my G6 and make additions or changes with much more thought. Thanks. I envy the places you have near you but am now inspired to find some areas near me that you might would love to explore!

Awesome thread, pictures, and rigs! I found this thread last night and just ordered a Deadbolt at lunch today! Haha! Keep up the good work and FYI if your looking for a Deadbolt, some online stores have great discounts to make this rig very affordable.

RPP Hobby | Radio Controlled Cars, Trucks, Boats, Helis, Planes, Plastic Models is the best place to order with very fast shipping, great prices, coupon codes and they always support RCC and CRAWLING...many other sites do not. The SCX10 Deadbolt RTR is about the same price at my LHS $299.

After Dudleys biggest repair to date, he's back in action.

Dudley was treated with a new ring and pinion, stock of course, to keep cost at a minimum (after all stocks lasted for over 100 miles) Of course a new axle housing, and all new bearings throughout the front from Fast Eddie Bearings.

This outing we hit another familiar trail, Cecret Lake.
Cecret Lake is a perfect trail for a stock 1.9 rig. Just like the Lake Marry trail a stock rig can make the whole trail unassisted. Of course if you want to hit hard lines there is a ton of tough obstacles on the sides of the trail along with plenty of challenging terrain up at the lake.

I did have some issues with this outing, not on the trail or with Dudley. But after making it home, I accidentally deleted all but 3 of the photos I took. On a good note Forest did get a couple but due to them being transferred to me by text the quality is very low but I'll share what I have.

Dudley logged 2.2 miles on the is trail run.

At the trail head with friends

First part of the trail is very easy, but absolutely beautiful

A little detour to play in the stream. You know Dudley can't resist a chance to play in the water.

Oh look, a rock!!

There are a few places early on to test your waterproofness

About half way the trail starts to get fun

Look there is still snow up here.

Playing on some tough lines on the side of the trail

The trail narrows a bit as you near the lake

Group photo at the lake

Like I said earlier there is a ton of rock to play on at the lake

Me trying to get the perfect shot

The classic Dudley sunset shot.

starting back down the trail after the sun went down.

last pic. Water crossing in the dark.

This thread is great and I can't wait to see more I ordered a deadbolt a few weeks ago and am constantly impressed by its capabilities. I did however order metal links as the flexy plastic ones drove me nuts and kept springing my DB all over the place.

Again, awesome pictures.........."thumbsup"

did Dudley make it to axial fest at Cisco Grove??

Yes he did!!
I ran Ultra class so Dudley didn't see much action till Sunday, but he did run in the "Dirt Drags"on Saturday.
We log some decent mileage on Sunday.

I just finished up going through pics for Dudleys update (coming soon) "thumbsup"

Axialfest!!

If you haven't been to Axialfest, start making plans for 2016 now! Axialfest is the ultimate scale adventure. With people coming from all over the globe, it is "THE" event to attend if you love Axial, scale crawling or trail running.

This year Dudley spent most of the weekend in camp as I was running in the 2.2 Ultra class. He did make it out Saturday for the 4x4 Dirt Drags but disn't make it past the second round of eliminations.

Sunday, however Dudley did get out for a good trail run. We headed out to my favorite area in Cisco Grove, down by the river Under the freeway. We spent the day running with friends and playing in and near the water

Dudley logged 3.2 miles of distance without any issues

A few pics from Sundays outing

Who was driving Dudley's twin?

That is "Skippy Scout" driven by the legendary G-Diddy (aka Paul Blackner)
One of Dudleys favorite trail companions "thumbsup"

I love this thread, that last photo^^^^ just before you go under the overpass is my favorite spot at Cisco. "thumbsup"

Yep we head down to that spot for some fun crawling the Sunday after the festivities each year (one of my favorite parts of the Axialfest weekend)

just went through the whole thread...EXCELLENT write up man. very impressive. ive recently gotten into the hobby and def want to make next years axialfest!!!!

Running behind on a couple of updates....

A few weeks ago I had Dudley out on one of our favorite trails, Cecret Lake.

This outing we were joined by Rusty Jr, and Shrek, Driven by Forest and his son Bridger. This is a familiar trail that's not to long so you can do it in an evening after work. Perfect trail as I've been very busy and haven't had a ton of time to get out with the R/Cs

Dudley logged 2.2 miles on the trail without any issues to report.

Meeting friends at the trail head

Dudley playing in one of the early stream crossings.

Lower part of the trail is pretty easy but very beautiful

Dudley can't resist the opportunity to play in the mud

Back on the trail. Sure is pretty up here

About half way we hit one of the tougher obstacles

Quick stop for a group photo

The last half of the trail is loaded with rock to test your rigs capability

Group shot over looking the lake.

Lots of cool rock to play on at the lake.

One more pic of Dudley after a quick rinse in the lake, look'n good Dudley

Great thread, but would be nice to have the first post updated stating what current ESC, suspension links, gear ratio, motor, etc. are. I realize it's a mostly stock rig, but would be good to know for reference. "thumbsup"

I agree Cisco Grove down by the river is a great playground!
