Some of you may remember this thread from last year: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42831&highlight=electric+shows

Well, this year Nickelpimp, Etype R and I, with the help of One of Bigballers Novak racing brushless systems, took home the R/C X-Games Gold in the Spud run representing MNRCRC and electric power in general "thumbsup"

Truck spec's:
Name: Spud Buggy (A take off from the old cartoon Speed Buggy for those not old enough to know)
Bug body of course
Locked Tlt axles
Locked pede tranny
Pro-Line paddles front and back
Etype R built torsion chassis
Cheapo Futaba steering servo
32 pitch gearing with a 54/12 combo
And last but not least: a Novak GTB brushless racing ESC, with a 4.5R Velociti race tuned brushless motor

For those that don't know what a "Spud run" is?? check the link to last years thread for explanation.

Each competitor gets 3 runs.
My First run we had it geared too high and bogged out after about half way through.
After a visit to the pits, and a gearing change, my Second run the truck died about 20" into the run.
Back to the pits where an electrical connection problem was found.
The Third and final run had to count, and it turned out to be a charm
I had a 4.52 second run, taking 1st with a few trucks yet to complete all their runs.

Paul from R/C Car Kings, the event sponsor was kind enough to let me run a unofficial timed run to really let her fly, since I held back my 3rd and final run to make sure I didn't get snaky and fly out of the pit.
On that run I had a 3.60

The official winning times were:
1/8th scale class 4.52
5th scale class 4.10

This year they has a separate class for the 5th scalers (which they should of had last year)

Special thanks goes out to:
Nickelpimp for building the truck and acting as crew chief "thumbsup"
Etype R for helping in the pits and taking pic's "thumbsup"
Bigballer for supplying the Novak power "thumbsup"
R/C Car Kings for sponsoring the event "thumbsup"
Mike Fisk/FHF Racing R/C X-Games promoter "thumbsup"

Watch the R/C X-Games thread for pic's and links to vids which should be posted soon.

Here are a few pics...

The first run, it started to run out of power shortly after this.

We dropped the pinion 10 teeth and tried again. The second run didn't make it far though. We strapped in one of my 1400 8 cell packs, and we tested it. It was still cutting out. The male Deans connector was over heated when soldered onto the Novak. I ended up bending the tabs with some pliers, so they would make contact. A few runs outside to make sure it was not going to cutout, and we were ready for the final run.

I didn't think Troy was going when he did, so I did not get a chance to take a picture of the winning pass. But when he ran one more time, to see what a full throttle run would do, I snapped a picture right at the end.

Here is a link to the gallery page with the rest of the spud run pictures, I didn't take to many this year as I did not care for getting coverd in cold mashed patato.... http://www.turtlecrawler.com/comps/xgames 2007/index_2.htm

And here are a few pictures from the racing that I took, I only watched a few of the races this year. I was to worn out from all the work of setting up the course, and not getting much sleep over the weekend to take pictures.

And this copper buggy ended up winning one of the mains with a broken rear shock, I think it broke in the first lap. Pretty impressive driving to pull that off.

The crawling course was pretty tough, being that it was all field boulders and dirt. We also built it a bit taller then we should have, making the sides to steep on most of it to climb up. We could have had a bigger course if we would have kept it lower. Next year should be a better course, as we will learn from this year.

A couple planks from a old pallet made for a challenging scale looking bridge. The planks were placed at different heights as well

A lot of people high centered on this rock, you had to pick your lines carefully on this course.

Great pics. I will have to ask you sometime about pics and cameras. Very nice and clear pics, hard to do with off road racing.

thanks,
Casey

Thanks Casey, I don't get the chance to take pics of the racing to often. They do move a little quicker then our crawlers do though :-P
