FFWF's Budget Bomber Build

Parts are slowly coming in, still waiting for the Puller Pro to arrive, along with the damn steering links & VP trailing arms Here's a teaser shot at least :)

Got to take the bomber out today for a nice crawl, with all my goodies as of now. It really is quite impressive, the 2200kv packs some serious torque! I sent the bomber flying more than once, haha! Once I got out of the throttle on some very grippy asphalt piles and let the tires do some work, it performed astonishingly well! Here's some pics I'll pick it up again after a few pics:

Only thing that I'm not too happy with on this rig currently, the sway bar... I keep having issues w/it loosening up after a few hard launches, even after lock-tight. i'll be ordering a VP once I talk myself into dumping more coin into this rig!

Notice I did whip up a nice stainless rear firewall panel, it actually requires no hardware to be held securely in place (with side stock panels). It's hard to see in those pics so here is another view:

Does require the spur/pinion cover to be removed, but it really adds some detail/proportionality to the chassis & also keeps things a little cleaner!

That's all for today, like I said swaybar loosened up & performance fell-off so I called it. I hope you all enjoy the pics! Next time i'll have to get some video.

Nice rig! The fix for me on the sway bar was
clean with alchohol
replace set screws with 2.5mm socket head screw
use blue locktite on clean parts & tighten
let sit so loctite can dry

Yeah, I'll actually give that a shot. I love the carbon fiber too much to sell it!

Thanks for the heads up, I thought making a longer .0625 stainless rod along w/lock-tite on the set screws would remedy it, guess not!

I'll be cleaning everything up, and switching to the 2.5mm SHCS. While I'm at it I will file some concentrical flat spots on the rod for the cap screws to grab. "thumbsup"

Thanks for sparking some motivation!

Any video?

I'll try to get some once it drys up outside a bit. Im debating on what I want to do next to the rig. I'd like to order or build some lower front links, and get an aluminum motor mount to rid of flexiplastic. :flipoff:

limiting straps, light bar, hi-lift will all come when/if I find them on the cheap/used

I wanted to post an update quick, even though not a lot seem to be interested :flipoff:

Ordered some revo rod ends, already purchased some .1875" solid stainless steel rod, will be tapping them like you see for 10-32, and using a bender to make the bends to replace the remaining stock links. I have $13 in the rod ends, & it sure is going to be a lot more rewarding and fun to build my own, rather than purchase. This will leave me more room to spend the money somewhere else on the rig!

I'll update again when I start building the links!

Are you drilling out the rod ends because even with 8-32 they are kinda tight without slight drilling.

Yes, I'll be opening the rod ends up with a #21 drill, then tap w/10-32 bottoming tap. I don't have the revo rod ends yet, but I'm hoping there's enough meat on them to allow the 10-32 threads. I've read that it's doable, so it shouldn't be an issue. "thumbsup"

It's been super cold & work has been giving some OT, so I take that. Anyways, I finally got both sets of rod ends in. I ordered both long & short revo ends, and picked up a few extra taps, and I was able to get about an hour in down in my tiny 22°F work space tonight! I had previously used some 1/8" aluminum tig wig to mock up a high clearance lower front link, so I took that out & bent 2 pieces of that 3/16's stainless, a left/right. Then cut to length and filed the ends square. Next the ends were tapped with a 10/32. For the rod ends I used revo ends, opened the hole to a 5/32 and then tapped with 10/32. Was able to get both front lower links done tonight, & can't wait to do the uppers next!

I also made my mind up on a gear change, the rig needs more wheel speed up front with a little less wheel speed in the rear. Had it out yesterday for about an hour, and was again impressed with it's performance, & once again didn't break anything! Like I said, all I am seeing right now is hopefully this gearing situation! Can't wait to see how it does with the high clearance links!!

Here's a few quick pics of the work:

Just wanted to post another small update..

I have the front upper links bent, I am still needing to address the final length (would anyone here know how long eye to eye for wraith/bomber front upper links?) but these are looking really nice. I took the time and really fit them to the lines of the chassis for max clearance. Here's a teaser, should have better pics by this time tommorow.

I'm getting 122mm eye to eye for front uppers.

Wow, that's odd I was getting right about 4.875" which is right there... You wouldn't happen to have the length of the lowers would you? That might be where my issue is. Thanks for your help!

Front links were finished and installed. Too much snow to take it for a rip, we got about 23" here since last night. Here's a picture of the front links all wrapped up!

Also did a slight clean up of some wiring, Still not 100% but closer, you can also see the stainless rear firewall & stainless wiring hold down:

Next up will be installing my gears. I have the rear ud, just waiting for the front od to show up.

Future plans:

Dlux front truss
RR Slipper
Axial Motor Mount

Stay tuned, I am also about to start on a front bumper w/larger stinger.

like your link design...nice. What beadlock rings are those?

Wheels & Rings are Mayhem Engineering, honestly I forget the names now. Purchased them new about 4 years ago maybe.

Went ahead and did the rear gear change, while it was apart I installed my VP clamping rear lockouts.
