Fun with Tiny Cars

Did a bit of tuning to the TL ..

Found one set of CVD's in my stash, so of course they went up front.

Bolted on some temporary wheels and tires and noted right away that the chassis was sitting way too high. If I were doing a rally setup, this would be perfect. But my other TL is already set up for rally so this will be on-road only. Defintely need to lower the ride height.

Found a pair of Super Mini CVA's in my stash that just needed a few bits to be complete. Thankfully, had plenty of red o-rings laying around and got them built up. 40wt up front and 30wt out back. Forgive my camera - picked up a new one and still sorting things out.

I put 5mm internal limiters in and now it's sitting pretty! Maybe even a little low now for parking lot duty - we'll see. Had to swap out the springs as well - Yeah Racing hard up front and medium in back to start.

Think that's a more proper stance for some on road fun!

The speed tuned gears should be here today, and the body and wheels are en-route.

The tamiya radness continues!

Still dialing the crazy rwd Capri? That's a nice challenge and I'm learning to drift rwd now so I can relate.
Keep up the awesome work here!
Btw I just inspired a buddy at work to get himself an mf01 rally beetle, because his 1974 1:1 bug is exactly like it only green. Should be fun and his gateway rc... I feel like a dealer getting him hooked hahaha

TAMIYA!

The Capri is on display in my house. Wife loves it - no, really, she does!! :):) Along with my M07, they are the first things you see when you walk in the back door.

I believe the body for the TL01 should be here today, though my BOM is coming too so the Tamiya shenanigans might have to wait.

Straight up envy. All those awesome tamiya cars... AND your wife likes one?!?! You sir, are living the dream lol

Also I need to acknowledge that decepticon logo back there.
I kinda want the same mf01 rally beetle my co worker is getting... So I can paint it yellow... ;)

Ha - no, she doesn't. I was joking...thankfully, she's very patient with my RC obsession.

Speed tuned gears arrived and were promptly installed. Went with the middle ratio. Think it'll be a good fit for the 19t motor. Might be a bit tall, we'll see.

After every build or rebuild involving a drivetrain, I always run the gearbox a few minutes on 3v. Spreads any grease around and highlights any issues before I go out and unleash the full 2S power! :)

Went out in the driveway to set the trims and what not...fail. Slid sideways into the grass and it popped the rear camber link. I found that the rod end was defective - not sure how it missed that on assembly. Replaced with another and right back in action.

Trims set, ready to go! Body and wheels have arrived, just need to get some painting done. In the meantime, posing with her sister rally car and patiently waiting.

damn these cars are a blast...
im about to put a Tamiya logo on the back window of my 1:1 FRS since it always gets called "the toy car".

you had me fooled i thought your wife really liked the capri lol
my wife "tolerates" my RC stuff because it gets me outside. sometimes... and its quality time with my son :)

I have a Tamiya sticker on the back of my Xterra.. :)

Alright, let's get this one finished..

Precut decals? C'mon Tamiya, what's this oddity?

And done! I took a few liberties with the body. I didn't like the black stripe along the bottom, so I went with body color instead. Visually raises the car in my eyes.

Kept it simple paint-wise - too many with flashy graphics and what not. I love the lines of the body and they can get lost with all kinds of graphics splashed all over.

Swapped over some 24mm Tamiya mesh wheels - they tuck into the wheel wells perfectly.

And with my Rally TL01LA. Ready to go!

I do think my suspension is a little too low and stiff for parking lot mayhem, but we'll see once it gets out there.

Just tripped to this thread. MAN, you have some beautiful rides in the ol RC stable! That Capri is just gorgeous.

I've never done on-road RC, but the inspiration of your mastery is ...hard..to..resist!! haven't owned a Tamiya anything since '87 but it may be time to revisit, and find a big parking lot. "thumbsup"

Tt02 is screaming for you brother!

And that is one fly supra. Very nice!
As for your stiff suspension...
*hands you some drift tires*
;)

Yessir!
It's exactly what the TT series is for.
TT01 was my first on road car (*and just realized the Blackfoot was my first ever hobby grade), now the TT01 is my son's. :)
Try to find the TT02R it's got the best hop up goodies included.

Dang it...$150...I can afford that...and it begins. :lmao:

About a bazillion bodies out there!

Sorry for hijack if you consider it so, OS! :)

Get it on Tower and you can get it for around $140 shipped with the $15 off of $150 coupon.

hardest part for me is fooling myself into thinking its ok to put a solid rear axle body on a Tamiya chassis with IRS.
good thing there are still cool cars that came with IRS."thumbsup"

but yes Tamiya is easy on the wallet. well, at first... :ror:

Hijack away! Glad I'm not the only one here playing with tiny cars too!

I'm anxious for an on-road day and still hope we can get one in before the end of the year. I have on-road bodies to paint first, but the horrible humidity on top of my deep hate for painting have held me back from doing that.

Do you guys just play in parking lots or are there events like for trucks?

I'm finally, FINALLY beginning to get past my loathing for painting since I started using Tamiya masking tape and stopped watching hemistorm videos. I'm really happy with how my BOM body came out.

Doing a tiny car may take me back a few notches...

We just race in parking lots for fun with a couple of guys - nothing formal. There are some on-road tracks about an hour away in two different directions, but I've never raced there. I do have a Tamiya semi (one of the vehicles I'm dreading painting) and I'd love to race it, but I don't know of a local series.

If painting doesn't do it Tamiya decals will make you hate your life. :ror: There's usually a ton of them and they are almost never precut!
