Futaba 4PL Setup, Tips, Tricks & Help

I don't want to disable the reverse from the ESC. Instead I want to know if I can enable & disable reverse only with the radio and have it assigned to one of the switch?
Or have the ability to allow forward throttle to 100% but reverse throttle to 0% ? But also program one of the switch to allow forward throttle & reverse to be 100% ? So I can go back and forth on the fly.(?)
As for the brake & drag brake, I can program that in the ESC.

I am just wondering if I can program the radio to have it function like so...

I did read the 4PL manual but... I just am not understanding it.

I still don't see the purpose of what you are trying to accomplish.
+1.....:roll::roll:

As I stated before, if it's a "rule thing" for something other than crawling, it will NOT be accepted. The tech guys WILL need to see the ESC blinking to show reverse is disabled..........."thumbsup"

Ooops, sorry. I keep on forgetting to say what I wanted to use for.

It is non-crawling related but I decided to ask here because a lot of knowledgable people with electronic/radio configuration programming.

I would like to add a mechanical disc brake on my Savage Flux HP and have the ability throttle/brake/reverse using the trigger. Likely using one of the switch to engage reverse.
I would use nitro Savage parts would require hardware modifications, etc...

Sorry for dragging my question for too long... I just wasn't able to think how I could set this up to work with a non-programmable 4 channel radio. So I thought high end programmable radio might be able to do it within the radio mixing and such.

Brake and reverse are the same thing is the problem. You can't have brake but no reverse, because they both are reacting from the same signal.
Ummm...better question to ask (IMHO) would be, does the Savage Flux actually have a reverse?? If not, issue solved (I think).:roll:8)"thumbsup""thumbsup"

But from Castle Link (mamba monster esc), could I just not set the brake to custom setting of 0%?

Savage Flux is a electric, so it's got forward/brake/reverse like any other e-RC

Could the winch (ch 3 or 4) be hooked up to DT3 like a 3 pos switch? Push forward and it spools out, let off and it stops, pull back to spool in. If so, can it be instant on, instant off or would the speed have to ramp up?

The programming does not allow for a momentary switch on the DTs, only on the pushbutton but that's only 2 positions and you need 3. The "speed" change would be instant, no ramping.

One idea is to use channel 4 with a reversing module, just a relay that crosses the wires to the winch, and setup channel 3 to the pushbutton to turn the winch ESC on or off momentary (Futaba calls this "alternate" I think). Then channel 3 could also be controlled by a on/off relay and you won't get any creeping.

The Heyok no drift winch controller would elimate the need for any of that and not tie up another channel.

I will admit that this is a bit of a lazy display related question. I have searched all over the owners manual, and did quite a bit of reading here but did not find much, but I am certain this has been addressed so forgive my laziness.

I just got my radio and got everything setup today, and this is one impressive radio. My only wish is the display screen when in biased mode. Is there a way to set the display or get to a screen that would allow me to really look at what I have the biased at without having to pull the trigger? The trigger display version alone is a little hard to make sure it is dead on if you ask me.

Again forgive my laziness but I am a little read out on this and am hoping someone can give me a quick answer.

I just did some driving with my rig and I am noticing some small things I need to look into.

1. My wheel speed does not appear to be there. Either I am running dead batteries (which is very possible), or my calibration did not go as well as I had hoped. I will get into it but wondering if anyone noticed this as well.

2. One cool feature of the wantasummit dig switch was the ability to have 2p switch get you from whatever biased you were at and them pop back to 100 with the touch of one button. On the 4pl I use my biased on dt-3, but if I put dt-1 on a biased trim but set it at 100% and it almost works perfectly the only problem is that it will go from 0 to 120 and not to 100% so I am close but not all there. I am wondering if you can set a sub trim on a switch to limit it to 100%.

You don't want to lose the ability to go to 120%. There are instances where overdriving the rear is a good thing. Just get more drivetime.

I agree in that having the ability to go to 120 is a good thing for sure. I was simply wondering if you could simply set one button have an epa and not all. I am guessing no but the ability to do the 100 travel is pretty slick though in my mind.

Tonight was my first night to crawl with this radio and it is a great product for sure. I like the feel and I definitely like not having the cool yet bulking WAS adapter in the rig. I just wish I had given myself about half a year so I would not have had a dx3r thrown in to increase the cost. $200 was much more managable.

Volts that the 4pl shuts down?

I'm running NIMH rechargeables.. Anyone know what voltage threshold this thing shuts down on? My old controller would shut down around 11vdc..

Harley.. Actually 4 NIMH cells are lower voltage than 4 standard AA cells.. 1.25vdc vs 1.5vdc

I guess I confused everyone with my comment about my old radio as it used 8 cells vs 4 for this one.

So.. I'm guessing this radio would shutdown around 4.8vdc or so.. That's what I'm looking for.. This way I can look at the voltage read-out and know when to recharge the batteries..

sorry for the confusion...
