Getting Back Into Mountain Biking

Hell yes, matter of fact, start a general THE mtn biking thread for all of us please! I know there's quite a few guys here that are into various forms of it, and I would love to have one thread where we can all share info and ride pics, stories, etc. Have a great ride guys! "thumbsup"

Just actually got done with a ride up in Pisgah & Dupont this past weekend. Had a blast and covered roughly 25+ miles from both afternoons added together. If your down to ride some time please feel free to shoot me a PM. We are planning to head to Snowshoe in the summer and few other local places like Hilltop & Clemson. Here is a quick pic of me and a buddies setup before we headed out! I am riding the 2013 Trek Slash 7, he is on the 2013 Trek Remedy 9.

Heck yeah man, I'd love to get together and do some pedaling. Let me get back into some decent shape, and I'll give you a shout for sure. Sent a friend request so I don't forget who it was that mentioned going riding, what with my CRS and all. :lmao:

Thanks for making the thread Brandon. "thumbsup"

So, for some good bikes with a decent build we have:

1. KHS Aguila
2. Giant Talon 27.5 4 and 29er 2
3. Specialized Hardrock line of bikes(go for hydraulic disc brakes)
4. Specialized Rockhopper 29
5. Trek X-Caliber 7

Here's a link to a good article with some pretty good ideas:

Best mountain bikes under $1,000 - BikeRadar

They're all 29er which is a really god starting point for getting into mountain biking."thumbsup"

Good but they always overlook house brands like Nashbar, Access, Fuji, Motobecane, etc. they often have really good groupo for good price, just make sure you read the geometry specs, ask questions etc....not recommended for first bike, that's better to get properly fitted at store.

Just today I put on some accessories to get ready for some riding.....
2014 Motobecane 550HT....

Not too bad for less than $350 shipped (Early pre order) Now $399

Cool, now post some ride pics!

I hear ya. I was used to riding top of the line, best of everything bikes back in the day. Had 3 bikes worth over 17k back then.
My main goal was to get back on one and get back into shape and see if I was gonna stick with it. Then upgrade next year of so.
Going for a spin tomorrow to look for more sheds.

Cool, ride it and post more ride pics! I've read good stuff about X-Fusion forks X Fusion Shox - Forks Or you might find good online deal for last year's Rockshox Reba. Just evaluate your current and future bike needs before upgrading. "thumbsup"

As long as it's not Babboon butt hide.
Natedog and I are hittin up our local favorite spot
For an evening ride... Both on big wheels & no gears.
I'll try post some pics of the more attractive ride
features if you don't mind.
"thumbsup"

Braaap! Woot woot! "thumbsup"

here are a few pics from Natedog's & my ride last night.
We finished the second half in the dark because we wasted some time on a flat issue I had after donging a rock and snake biting my front tube. We missed some of the best shots from atop the Bluff overlooking the lake. A great evening ride mixed with asphalt and dirt. We can actually do all dirt or mix it up and cut some sections out depending on how we feel. Total ride distance is around 25 miles. Crazy thing is, in that 25 miles you cross through 3 counties :).

crossing the river to ride up trail toward the lake, which we then loop around.

action shots, mostly of Natedog playing in what we call the shoot, a nice little up hill snaking series of rutted trail goodness. It's fun going either direction.

Great ride and pics came out nicely too, thanks for posting! "thumbsup"

Awesome Brandon... thanks for posting this. Now we have a place to talk about our other expensive habits, while inspiring others to get out and enjoy. "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

Yes, thanks Brandon, I love to get others out actually riding the trails, love the trail pics too! "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup" Ride on!

I just went with brands that I know a little about. These bikes have some pretty decent builds, that' why I went with them. I have a Fuji Nevada 3.0 and it was great until the rear brake went out. Then I said screw it and turned it into a SS.

Very nice, my SS is one of my favorite bikes just zen out and ride in the woods. "thumbsup"

What bike did you use that XT rear derailleur on you got from me?

I didn't use it. I have all SRAM components and it would be more expensive to switch over. Would have had to but the shifter pod and a new shifter cable. I finally sold it and used the money to get a neck brace for riding my motorcycle and my DH bike.
.

I had and still have the front XT derailleur and the XT trigger shifters to go with it..you didn't want those..lol..would have made you a great deal on it all..Even had brand new jagwire ripcord shifter cables....I ended up selling all the parts I got for that scratch build scx...didn't figure I needed 3 scx10s..

The cables are sold though.

I bought about 1200 in parts to put on the Motobecane I bought.
The parts off the motobecane were going on a 2013 Mongoose XR200 for fun along with a monitou QL series 6.5 air shock I still have.

I recently sold an Epicon X2 front fork
Ashima brake rotors 180f 160r
Avid elixir hydraulic brakes
Assortment of Ti bolts
Ritchey pro seat post.

Just didn't think I would get around to building the bike.

I still have some WTB speed disc wheels
Ritchey WSC pro 4 axis stem and pro handlebars
A set of Ti skewers
WTB trail Clamp on grips
Sram PG 850 cassette
KMC X8.99 chain
Shimano Deore Crank with the BB51 bottom bracket

Most of that should make its way on the bike if they don't sell in the next week or 2.

I needed a neck brace more than a new shifter. Old one still works just fine luckily. And you can never have to many scx10's.
