Getting ready to order the new Exceed Rc 1/5 max stone Crawler!!!

Just got my 1/5 scale maxstone and the rear gear box gears are grinding call nitrorcx and said they would send new gears but it would take a week so no running till gears get here. Looked up metal gears for it 45 $ and out of stock so I guess you order a maxstone better plane on 90 $ for metal gears

There's guy whom participates with our local crawler club.
He purchased/runss the Exceed 1/5 scale rtr

and something seemingly fails each and every time he brings it out.

I personally think it looks silly
with the under-sized body and no under carriage.
and from my observation... it rolls even worse.

The excessive articulation does not look scale like at all...
and the rtr shock(s) ride stiffer then a board.

^ I blame the progressive shock mount position(s).
and the shock set up/tuning... uh... or lack of.

Last time his 1/5 scale was out...
it lost the nut that holds a wheel. Lol

So I suggest going over the 1/5 scale rtr
and checking everything.... twice

and blue locktite will be your friend.

I have had a Maxstone 1/5 for about a year now.

The biggest problem I've had has been snapping the lower link ends off. If you bottom out on anything, the link ends can not handle the weight of the truck. Metal ones are the way to go.

The next problem has been the gears. Buy the metal ones and be done with it.

Handling is a problem, even with 4 wheel steer. It is just too long. I custom drilled the chassis plates to move the inner link mounts in as centered as possible. The springs on the shocks are way too stiff.

As for power, I switched to Traxxas 550 Titans and ESC from an Emaxx. Used a Traxxas waterproof receiver case, and switched to a 3 channel receiver/transmitter for future use.

I used a Proline Topkick body. It looks sooooo much better than the body they come with. And get some kind of bumpers/brush guards. The first thing that gets hit besides the tires are the steering links.

I have the maxstone 5 $279. And it is a very big crawler. Some of the things i have found so far... some of the suspension parts and steering parts can be found at redcat.com. for the clawback crawler $600. I got some of the steering parts for 4ws from them in about a week. The maxstone 5 comes with a cheap 1/10 scale steering servo so be ready to upgrade servo and mount. The clawback has a nice aluminum one for 5th scale but needs spacers. The gears seem ok but if metal is available i want to upgrade. Any help would be appreciated. The gearboxes and driven cases are the same as the maxstone 8 with extensions. I have added weight to the wheels with no problems yet. I chose to get the maxstone 5 for the platform knowing i was going to change most of it. With that in mind it is a nice place to start to build somthing realy good. If you want easily found factory parts look elsewhere but if you want a big crawler with lots of articulation and love hunting for upgrade parts that will work maxstone 5 is a good place to start...

I almost ordered the Maxstone 1/5 scale the other day, but opted for the 1/8 Mad Torque instead. One of the things that made up my mind was the fact that the Maxstone came with plastic gears, where the MT has metal. But then I found the review linked below that mentions the Maxstone 1/5 has been changed to steel gears. Date on the article is in 2016. Can anyone confirm? I've already got the Mad Torque on the way, but a friend is considering the Maxstone. The plastic gears are a sticking point for him too. If there are metal upgrades or it comes with metal now, it becomes a moot point.

I'm not well versed in either of those cars, but aren't the Maxstone axles Clod-based and the Mad Torque axles are Berg-based? If that observation is correct, I'd also steer towards the Mad Torque.

From what little I've learned in the crawler crash course I've been giving myself over the last few days, I believe the Mad Torque's axles are Berg-based, yes.
