GM 5.3 swap into My 1976 GMC Jimmy

I really like those blazers and especially those quad cabs. The ls are very capable and cheap to find as you mentioned. A 4L80E would go along nice with your trucks for the ease of cruising on the highway.

A friend of mine did an lq9 with LS3 heads and a Texas speed cam and it is a beast compared to the old sbc.

On the 8.1 you can use regular big block headers which is nice since they are easy to get.

This is the first rig I have had that doesn't need to be a daily driver so the overdrive is in the form of a diesel rig and a trailer. For driving from camp to a trail or to town it works great it just needs a back seat so the whole family can go.

This would probably be one of the last thing I would get rid of. Lately it has been getting school bus duty so I drive it most weekdays. The only kid riding to her school in a rock crawler or something that old that doesn't have to.

Battery mount. The batterys were not held in they were just in a U shaped shelf. The dual batters kept discharging and than they froze so a single red top was installed. It had to be warrantied a few times until I fixed a short in the fuel level sending wire.

Removed the diamond plate tool box that blocked the back from having seats

In my first post I had said the fuel gauge quit working on the drive to Colorado this was the cause, it is the main power for the motor and the bare wire is the feed side. I found it when I tried to fix the fuel gauge it had sent power down the fuel sending wire and zapped the gauge and sender it was a constant draw that would discharge the battery in a few days if I didn't disconnect it.


A new sending unit and Areomotive stealth 340 pump

New fuel pressure regulator

So I think this gets me to where I am now.
I had me 17 year old nephew owe me some labor and instead of doing something boring like painting or fixing the fence we cut the roof off the Jimmy


It had rust on the roof skin and a pillars

I got a windshield frame and roof from a 73-75 Blazer.


It was a little short to get rid of the lights on the passanger side but with a little rehab I got it back together.

The drivers side was the right length but still had to slice and dice to get it lined up

I got it back together except the outer skin I need to go cut up my parts Blazer and hope the skin is useable

This is the most redneck rust repair I have ever tried to fix






I never thought to use diamond plate and window screen to do rust repir.
So this is where it is today in my garage getting put back together for summer I will fix the rust a little at a time.

I installed the old windshield and gasket.
