Just after Christmas this year, I bought a used Summit. It was my first RC in 25 years. I did not want to spend nearly $700 on a new Summit until I knew if this hobby would stick with me, and me with it.
I took a chance and bought this amazing truck used from eBay. I had a few e-mail conversations with the seller ahead of time and felt that he was an honest man who had taken care of his truck. I paid, it came, and it was so!
I have spent the last few weeks getting used to it, slowly upgrading it and getting it dialed in. The previous owner had converted it to a 14.4v DeWalt. I can't compare it to the Titan 775 since I've never had that motor, but I am quite impressed with the DeWalt.
The only nagging issue I've had with this truck is a frustratingly short range. Up close crawling was no problem. But when I would do some high gear speed runs, it would start bucking and lurching at barely 100 feet away.
I read about putting capacitors on the motor, but was not convinced I wanted to do it. Then I read about other people having range issues with non-Summit's using the older TQ radio system which I got with my used Summit.
Today, I got a chance to buy a good condition used TQi TX and RX for $30 and decided it was worth the risk. These days, $30 just ain't that much. If nothing else, I liked having the differential toggle switch moved to the top of the transmitter.
But OMG!! The range is no comparison! I can drive the truck as far as I can see it and there isn't even a hint of hesitation or loss of signal. I've read that the TQi is higher power than the TQ. I guess that makes the difference. I am now 100-percent happy with everything about my Summit.
