Greatest metal band ever???????

I'm not too in to "real" metal, but if you're looking for some INTENSE music...

Beneath the Massacre

and

Despised Icon

are two of the gnarliest metal bands I've ever heard or seen.

Metal, pure metal? No death, or anything else......I'd have to say Slayer. They were one of the first thrash bands (along with Metallica and Megadeth) and have done some kick ass stuff over the years (specifically "Undisputed Attitude"). Now, I havent really like much of their stuff since that album (UA), but they were part of a big shift in music in the early 80's.

Right on Jeremy, I'd agree and say this would have been my top choice for a metal show. Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Motorhead, and (dont care for) Anthrax.
The Big Four would have been spectacular.

I don't think you can say nail it down to a single greatest metal band ever. The term metal is so broad now adays for music it seems, but if i were to pick a strictly metal band and name them the greatest, I'd say Judas Priest. The above bands are metal, but not in the same category of metal as JP.

I can agree with the fact that Led Zepplin influenced many different bands....including those metal bands of today. However, I still do not believe them to be a metal band.....certainly not the "greatest metal band ever"....

I don't think they are metal. Both are great rock bands....

x2

Two words people. IRON MAIDEN. Nuff said!

Maiden is dayum good, however i do not personally classify them in the same category of music.

I almost dont want to say metalica because they have become so main stream, but out of all of the 150 - 200 bands i have seen live and can remember the show, metalica stands out as a high quality band that can rock a stadium live. i have thrown like a frisbee many CD's out the window of my car after a show, Pantera < worst band ever, only show i have walked out of, ozzy, acdc (johnson aka donald duck), slash, and more i cant remember right all right now, but because they sounded like CRAP live.

but if live dont count then there are lots more i could put on top of my list.

man the tool"thumbsup" show i saw on friday had the best sound i think i,ve ever heard and i go to 5-8 shows a year for the last 25 years..pretty much all heavy stuff..my ears werent ringing afterward like usual and everything was so crystal clear..i,ve seen metallica probably 5 times but havent bothered since the black album. but they used to put on a good show..now they some medley crap..lol..not the same band i grew up with..another couple of great live shows i,ve seen recently were mastadon"thumbsup" and lamb of god"thumbsup""thumbsup"

um ok:flipoff: right back at ya..lol no disrespect but led zeppelin is for sure one of the greatest bands that ever was but sorry dude its not exactly heavy metal..hard rock yes..they did some heavy stuff but not what i,de call metal, and i love zep..im 42(no kid) and listen to any good guitar orientd stuff..to be sure zeppelin influenced countless bands..i just watched the song remains for about the 20th time, and still blown away by jimmy page you can hear some of that trippy stuff in bands like tool and mastadon..

:ror: That is another good Maiden song! It would have been a long ass post if I had included every good song of theirs....

One of my favorite songs."thumbsup"

ive stayed out of this thread til now just to see where it goes. i figured it would gravitate towards older stuff like pantera, slayer, metallica, iron maiden, ozzy, etc.. ive never been a fan of any of that really...

im more into newer shit like Black Dahlia Murder, Suicide Silence, Bring me the Horizon, Norma Jean, etc... more screaming, more double bass, the kinda shit that gets me up and ready to destroy something.

Since I started the thread I am going to say you are all wrong. Sabbath is the greatest ever. All these other bands will be the first to admit Sabbath started it, and they have influenced every facet of Metal since. Look when they started 1968. Hippies where still singing about love, and peace, and Sabbath said f that lets have some blood and destruction. There is not another rock genera that does not have Sabbath fans in it. They sell out arenas filled with every age group 40 years after they started the whole thing because they are the best. No other band mentioned can say that. They are hands down the best ever no question about it.

Hah! I actually don't disagree. They are good.

I just got their 1970 Paris show for Paranoid. Freakin. Awesome.

Mastadon is good too.
