ive stayed out of this thread til now just to see where it goes. i figured it would gravitate towards older stuff like pantera, slayer, metallica, iron maiden, ozzy, etc.. ive never been a fan of any of that really...

im more into newer shit like Black Dahlia Murder, Suicide Silence, Bring me the Horizon, Norma Jean, etc... more screaming, more double bass, the kinda shit that gets me up and ready to destroy something.

Toss up for me between Slayer / Converge / Origin / Napalm Death / Meshuggah. I do dig some of Mastadon's stuff too. What I consider "Metal" is pretty different from some of the bands I've seen mentioned here.

best metal bands of all time in my opinion would have to be pantera, metallica, slayer, and danzig. my current favorite metal band is volbeat

Since I started the thread I am going to say you are all wrong. Sabbath is the greatest ever. All these other bands will be the first to admit Sabbath started it, and they have influenced every facet of Metal since. Look when they started 1968. Hippies where still singing about love, and peace, and Sabbath said f that lets have some blood and destruction. There is not another rock genera that does not have Sabbath fans in it. They sell out arenas filled with every age group 40 years after they started the whole thing because they are the best. No other band mentioned can say that. They are hands down the best ever no question about it.

Sooo....now you tell us what defines the "greatest metal band"....

BTW, I didnt see Dio mentioned anywhere (well, I guess indirectly from those who mentioned Sabbath). I've liked most of the bands that he's played in or started...
