I am a Christian and JeremyH can attest I in no way force my beliefs on anyone, however I have to ask this. Does anyone force you to go to the peoples houses that hand out the pamphlets? I mean, some of the houses I took my kid to they gave cheap dollar store candy, which I threw away, some gave candy not wrapped well which I threw away as well. I just don't see how it matters. I have a choice whether or not to take my kids to their house and if they be Jehovah's Witness, Mormon, or some other group that hands out pamphlets I will just throw it away.

Had I known which houses were giving out propaganda instead of candy, I would have avoided them. Its not like they had a sign hanging by the door saying "It is our duty to inform prospective trick-or-treaters that we have replaced candy with Jesus. Ring bell and prepair to be filled with the light and truth that is our Savior. Thank you and may God bless your day, Amen."

I in no shape or form support the bull horn people shouting to everyone they are going to hell, however I don't see that as the case here.

In fairness the bullhorn reference was a bit of an exageration in this instance, but brother do I have stories...:ror:

I mean, when the people show up to your house I can see the irritation, but you are showing up to theirs.

When anyone comes to my door peddeling their deity, I am always nice to them. As much as I go on about Christianity, I'm not an asshole and I don't go around hating people on principal.

Religion is not brainwashing????? I also don't think you should be able to be "saved" until at least 18. You can't buy cigarettes till then, but your parents can sell your soul as a child????????

Religion is brainwashing if it is forced onto someone. And by forcing I mean give them no other option. Some people come into religion on their own, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Ok, well...5 out of 30 or so isn't very good. Do you live in a spiritual compound and not know it?:ror:

Dude, didn't you see the map? Its everywhere! There's like 50 churches in 80 square miles! Some right next door to another!

In this city, there is a Starbucks on the corner of one street....and right across the street is another Starbucks.

It makes me feel as if Starbucks is being forced down my throat....literally. Maybe that is why I choose to practice my coffee drinking abilities at locally owned coffee shops...without any Baristas or yuppies present....

I heard about that place. I also heard that when the universe starts to fold in on itself, thats where its going to happen.

Yeah, seems a bit excessive. My comment was just in response to what you said about the houses you visited. I know what you mean about churches on every corner. Just near my house we have 3 within walking distance, two of which are at best a block apart. They're like gas stations! One on every corner!:ror:

isnt a coffee shop without a barista just a gas station?

i love myself a good americano but not from starbucks or any of the other shitty chains. if im not near sooke and the coffee shop i normally go to there mcdonalds has a decent cup actually.

We're getting our third Wal-Mart, and I bet there's a Starbucks inside.

Actually the best coffee I've ever had was at my house. Buy yourself a coffee roaster and green beans and then make it with a French Press.

While your at it, learn to brew your own beer.

I'd never get voted off the island "thumbsup"

Well I am a Christian myself and while I do feel that it is ok to preach the Gospel and that everyone should have the opportunity to hear it, I also believe that it shouldn't be forced down someone's throat. I mean if you don't want to hang out with me for eternity then that's cool, but I bet that heaven has better rocks! Seriously though. We have 400+ kids that come by our house every year and we try and give out good candy (we spent about 100 this year) and do not give out tracks or anything like that. I feel that would be punishing the children for something that they have no idea about. My daughter on the other hand is one of those "Radical Extremist" Christians and got pissed because I took my 2yr old grandson down to the neighbors house and trick or treated and she got pissed. Of course anyone that knows me would know what my answer would be. I told her he is my grandson and I will do whatever I want when he is hanging out with his PAPA. If I want to take him to a dang bar (not really) I will. She didn't like that and now isn't talking to me, but still brings him over to hang out LMBO.

That is funny that your daughter is an extemists and pissed, because if she is really a christian, she would have forgiven you that instant. She should also be out killing non-believers like it says in the bible. Make sure she gives away all her money and belongings too.

IMO its the intent behind the action, or your interpretation of the event that matters. You weren't taking your grandchild off to sell his soul to Satan, you were off having fun and getting candy. She needs her head removed from her backside.

Where does it say that? Chapter and verse please.

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)

If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

Kill those who are not Christian or Jewish:

You must kill those who worship another god. Exodus 22:20

Kill any friends or family that worship a god that is different than your own. Deuteronomy 13:6-10

Kill all the inhabitants of any city where you find people that worship differently than you. Deuteronomy 13:12-16

Kill everyone who has religious views that are different than your own. Deuteronomy 17:2-7

Kill anyone who refuses to listen to a priest. Deuteronomy 17:12-13

Kill any false prophets. Deuteronomy 18:20

Any city that doesn’t receive the followers of Jesus will be destroyed in a manner even more savage than that of Sodom and Gomorrah. Mark 6:11

Jude reminds us that God destroys those who don’t believe in him. Jude 5

Thats rejection of law, not belief.

And that is someone trying to get you to worship other gods that you do not know.

Neither of those support killing of non-believers just because they do not believe.

Wow! Touchy subject, 'eh?
Even though I'm Christian, I don't agree with the pamphlet hand out, down the throat approach. And don't believe that is an appropriate way for folks to spread the gospel. Actually kinda lazy if you ask me. Some, I'll say "factions" or "extremist" Christian groups seem to think that they have the right and ability to convert or persuade individuals to they're believes. There's radical differences between many religions and believes in this day and age. And it's not right for any group to impose their views on others.

That being said, did any one realize the pamphlets kinda sorta worked?
I mean, although the approach was all wrong in my mind,
what are we all talking about now? Mysterious ways, eh'?

Aren't you supposed to spread the word? According to the bible.

Kill those who are not Christian or Jewish:

When these were written, there were no Christians.

You must kill those who worship another god. Exodus 22:20

Kill any friends or family that worship a god that is different than your own. Deuteronomy 13:6-10

Kill all the inhabitants of any city where you find people that worship differently than you. Deuteronomy 13:12-16

Kill anyone who refuses to listen to a priest. Deuteronomy 17:12-13

The full verses mention that you should do so "in the cities and towns and lands that the Lord has given you", meaning all those places in the middle east where this brew-ha-ha started.

Kill any false prophets. Deuteronomy 18:20

That would be those that claim to speak for God but in reality do not. Not a bad law IMO.

Any city that doesn’t receive the followers of Jesus will be destroyed in a manner even more savage than that of Sodom and Gomorrah. Mark 6:11

And whoever will not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!

The city may be destroyed, but on the day of judgement.

Jude reminds us that God destroys those who don’t believe in him. Jude 5

But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.

In that phrase, the destruction was past tense.

Aren't you supposed to spread the word? According to the bible.

Ya, but not like that. I don't remember in the bible saying anything about handing out religious paraphernalia. It's your own choice, believe what you want.
In my mind, actions speak louder than words any day!

Going to church makes you no more of a Christian,
than being in the garage, makes you a car...
Just trying to keep it real...

Nope. I'm still not a Christian. ;-)

And hey, that's ok too. I have plenty of non-Christian friends! And it's not my job to wrangle them in to something that might even offend them. I feel it's more important to be there when they start asking questions.

Kinda strange seeing someone so passionate about NOT believing in something, WOW!?;-)

isnt a coffee shop without a barista just a gas station?
Nope, you cant buy gas at the shop that I go to and the people who make the coffee dont give themselves stupid names. They also dont call the different sizes of coffee names that all mean "large".

BTW, Americanos are nasty.....put some milk in that shit.

Also, for those of you curious, here is a google map to the nexus of the universe:

Look at one, then turn around to see the other....
