This is my point. You are paying 250$ for hardware that performs under par compared to this system. How is that competitive?

Why ? I’m looking and seeing the competition, Holmes BLE and a Puller Pro 2200
Or is it because with the HobbyWing name it should be much cheaper than the competition ?

Axe sounds great, a local is praising !!! So we will see, JRH did a video on them

just got mine installed... but its dark now and the weather is really bad (typhoon season here). only had run it a few minutes on my scx10 II, it feels good oob... just need to fiddle with the wifi setup and see what i can change before really testing on the trail on sunday.

i've installed the AXE540 3200kv on my SCX10 II rig, stock 56T spur but used a 14T pinion and the speeds are quite good... definitely not as fast as a 3100kv but its good (specially coming from a 35T brushed system).
I really didnt like the burst speeds it made when slightly pulling the throttle trigger, i was looking for a more subtle startup. the new firmware, if im not mistaken, fixes this. i can now either floor it and get a huge burst of speed or slightly pull on the trigger and get conistent crawl speeds.
I'm thinking of getting either a Holmes or Tekin BL system for my 2 bombers and yeti, this way i can have a better comparison.

What makes you say it's in beta?
I'll have to buy another combo. The lack of torque control is a deal breaker for me to keep the system around.

In that case he could be waiting for a long, long time. Sometimes firmware/software never leaves beta...
Yeah i was refering to the firmware posted above.
Personnally I will avoid the AXE for now, the 1080 is good enough for brushed and i still think the Mamba X is the brushless king.
We'll see next year after the AXE is a more "mature" product.

So i've driven two TRX4s back to back one with the 1800kv and 2300kv Axe systems installed. I must say it is pretty impressive and drives really nice.
Question is probably more of a general brushless question but is initial startup speed different between lower KV and higher KV motors or does the initial startup stay the same across KVs? Wondering if a 1200kv or similar will work well in a TRX. I don't need bashing speeds at all since i'm prefer scale slow stuff. Thinking maybe with a 1200kv I can get tons of control down low and have the 2nd gear still available for more wheelspeed if needed. This will be my first foreray into brushless on crawlers. Currently running HH Crawlmaster 16T in my Ascender.

On a typical voltage based system (like Castle or Tekin), the startup speed isn't really affected by KV choice. It may be more sensitive at higher KVs, but the resolution is good enough to still get smooth startup as much as the motor design will allow.
On the AXE, the ESC operates on a velocity loop with a very defined lower speed limit. I haven't tested multiple KVs to see if this affects startup speed, but my prior experience leads me to believe that higher Kv's will indeed start up faster because of this. They only have so much bandwidth for throttle to work with, and so far it has shown that it does not have the low speed resolution that other quality systems can offer.

As a side note, I'll state that running an 1800kv brushless and sensorless Holmes Hobbies Revolver 540 through a Mamba X ESC, on both 3S and 4S the startup and low-speed control was phenomenal... this was in a Bomber.
The Mamba X software is fantastic, using a FlySky GT3C's CH3 button as an on and off switch for Crawler Mode to Rock Racer Mode (basically drag brake on and off) worked like a charm.
Well first time out today with he AXE system... Likes.. Integrated Bluetooth for easy programming. Smooth startup..
Dislikes and disapointed.. Throttle response.. Throttle ramps up in an annoying way and system is easily bogged down and cuts out requiring a reset. I played with the settings and
it doesn't offer the " Punch" that the castle offers.. Several times i couldn't complete a line simply because the system stalled. When I did complete a difficult line a lot of times the power builds and suddenly it wants to take off making
slow high stress crawling tricky.. Maybe a software update is in order? Also noticed it is 60 Amp cont.. seems low since the 1080 is 80 amp cont... No BEC supply issues though.. Had no trouble with my protek 370 BL.. Not ready to go back to castle just yet.. willing to wait for updates and see what others come up with.

I actually joined a local competition yesterday and drove my scx10v2 rig with the axe system. felt really good, but i didn't do too good... my issue where all the changes i made to the rig and not having driven it enough to really know its quirks and how to compensate for it. I never had any issues that JAV1987 experienced, the axe system worked quite well, it crawled where i wanted it to and sped through the parts i could floor it... the system never let me down, my choice of tire and suspension... thats another story
